What I do on New Year's day II

Lonely planet and Wikipedia English don't probably cover this so I thought I'd share :) I know it's not exciting but as always said, this is about non-exciting scribbles :) Happy new year! BTW, the custom we do for the slide #9 has been practiced widely since the 8th century according to Wikipedia. Isn't it super cool? Don't get me wrong. I am not being an ethnocentrist. I am just trying to show what we do in our country :) Thanks.

Thank you. That was very informative.Osechi looks very beautiful. But the last one is not Japanese (^_^), is it?

Fun and interesting as usual... such yummy food pictures and pretty temples. I wish for world peace, six-pack abs and a husband too! :-)

Thanks for sharring that looks like it would be a lot of fun. Especially the eating part :)

Where did you go?

I want to see Shigeki in samurai clothes, the hairdo and the mean katana sword..loll!
I lost you a bit on the picture 12...what thing were u going to see/do ?

Have a great start to the new year!

You are always so entertaining and informative in your postings! :)

You actually rang the huge bell?! Did you need earplugs for that?
Another trip for you Shigeki! I hope it's somewhere warm!

Shigeki, Thank you so much for showing us what it is like for you in Japan during New Year's. I absolutely loved all your pictures, it was ALMOST like being there. That is why I love you and your blog so much!!!! I learn so much. I would never know about these events or customs if not for you.
Once again Thank You.

PS I laughed at your more than once ,wishing for those six pack abs! :-)
I wish them for you in 2008.

Warm Regards,
Maggie

happy new year, shigeki!

filipinos don't eat noodles for new year's. we eat long noodles on our birthdays. the joke is that bad people should eat macaroni on their birthdays because macaroni is short and bent.

new year's eve is very loud in the philippines. each household amasses a small arsenal of firecrackers in the days before the event. on new year's eve, family and friends gather together for a big dinner and then at an unspecified time--it just happens--everyone in the neighbourhood go out into their front lawns and ignite their firecrackers. these firecrackers can include and are not limited to sparklers, roman candles, cherry bombs, judas belts, and a lot of other loud and bright things. it's actually pretty dangerous as you can seriously burn yourself if you're not careful. but i remember it as a very fun time when i was a child. too bad we don't do stuff like that here in canada.

I guess the closest thing to an L.A. tradition would be to watch the Tournament of Roses Parade on TV!!!!!! But it really is something else to get up early and watch it live. I was just too lazy and too cold to do it this year. I should have done it last year when George Lucas was the grand marshal and they had all the Star Wars geeks dress up like storm troopers and march down the 5-mile parade route!!!!!! Akemashite omedetou!!!!!! I wonder where your mystery destination has taken you...

This is not the section to share your own tradition without commenting on Shigeki's virtual tour, is it? (-_-;) Some must be too excited to share theirs!

Shigeki, Mt. Fuji looks nice. Did you wear "Haori&Hakama"? You must show us what you look like in them!

I hope you understand you will get spanked. I thought your next destination was Rio! What happened?

Hi Jean-Luc,

Thanks for watching. And yes, it's not Japanese. It's actually your home city :) Have a wonderful 1st weekend of Year 2008!

HI T.Kevin,

I am glad you found it interesting :) Six pack abs. That's something I really have to get this year! Have a wonderful 1st weekend of Year 2008!

Hi Kai,

Thanks for watching :) Yup. I like eating parts, too :) I am getting ready to go home already :) Have a wonderful 1st weekend of Year 2008!

Hi Sgx,

Well, I am sure I don't look hot like Ken Watanabe so I think it's better without it : )hahaha. On the slide 12, I had to take my family to this aunt's place. that's it so I only talked about the highway :) Have a wonderful 1st weekend of Year 2008!

Hi TigerYogiji,

Really? I am glad you find them but don't keep your hopes up on this "boring scribbles" :) Have a wonderful 1st weekend of Year 2008!

Hi Maggie,

I like sharing neo-japanese thingies since it's something we've been doing on a daily basis but Lonely Planet doesn't really cover much. (I still find that a great book though). Thanks for watching! I wish for your health as well! Have a wonderful 1st weekend of Year 2008!

Hi Raph,

Thanks for walking us through your thing. That's interesting to know :) Have a wonderful 1st weekend of Year 2008!

Hi GaijinGirl,

What's that Roses Parade? It's like some Turkey Day parade in NYC? I am getting ready to go home :) But I am enjoying a cheap bottle of VERY GOOD wine right now :) Have a wonderful 1st weekend of Year 2008!

Hi Neron,

That's not very nice of you to say things like that. If they want to share without commenting, that's fine unless they disgrace this website :) But I already know you are a bitter person so I see your point though :) Yes, I did wear them :) But I dont' know if I am "uploadable" in them :) Well, you haven't sent me the round-trip ticket. :-P Have a wonderful 1st weekend of Year 2008!
