One of the things I wanted to do after quitting work earlier this year was to be trained as a buddhist monk. What I will have to do at the temple is to meditate, eat light vegetable monk meals (called Shoujin Ryouri), pray and clean the temple frequently. Well, I am wondering if jerk-off is allowed...and if I get to see any young monks.... I will see about that. The temple which will welcome me is in the northern part of Japan and it's so isolated. If I went there permanently, I'd have slashed my wrist right here right now but I am only going to be trained for some time as a guest monk :-) Unfortunately, they don't allow me to take my computer with me and they don't have an internet connection. Ergo, I will be completely internet-less and cannot update my blog. It's actually a good thing as the internet traffict to this website has dramatically increased over several months while I get less comments :-) So this should decrese the internet traffic, and I don't have to worry about paying extra for that. Also, I didn't share it but since I got sverely sick earlier in April and stopped running regularly, I gained weight and was trying to lose weight. This training should take care of that, hopefully. I actually have scheduled several posts during my absense (almost weekly) so if you care to check this webpage still, please do. And if you still remember this web page by the time I come back (which is after I turn 32...September), please visit here again. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank every one of you who have visited, commented, supported, and communicated. If you still remember this site, I shall see you in fall! Until then, peace! You have a peaceful day! Zen. Ahhhhh :-)

What an interesting turn of events!
Was reading this http://www.sacred-texts.com/bud/zen/mumonkan.htm some time back and Case 19 really hit me.
Wow... I must admit I would be afraid to take such a step, three months with no internet! It does have a certain appeal though.
Well I hope it is a wonderful experience for you, and we will miss you in the meantime!

i mean, i will miss reading your blog (unless u post them as a gay buddhist monk, which is a weird plus)
Staying a temple was one of the things i imagined a few years ago. i thought it would be good for health both physically & mentally. Now i guess maybe you were quite tired of many things..maybe you just felt like going there, though. Just hope you could be refreshed completely!
I MISS YOU, SHIGEKI!!! But you'll be back purer and wiser. :)

It is September now hope you nake your appearance act soon.
Well, interesting! I stumbled across your webpage for other reasons. I am German, gay, Protestant, and spent many years in Korea and China though only a week around Nara and Kyoto. I know many Catholics who are gay and became priests or monks. Still I am not sure if it isn't a contradiction making life even more complicated. After all I suppose you go into a monastery to get your head cleared to calm down and to see life in its beauty again. If I lived amongst young monks I should certainly fall in love and then all my tranquillity would be gone again.
I should be interested in your experiences and thoughts when you come out again.
