I am so aged.

Mon, 28 May 2007

I got summoned by a friend of mine who went to elementary school together. So I went to this fantastic French restaurant and met this friend and a homo friend who also went to the same school. It was this straight friend's birthday two weeks ago and he got this bottle of wine in the photo as a birthday gift. This wine was bottled in 1975. The year in which we were born. He thought he'd share it with other friends who could appreciate this and who are as old as this wine so I was selected :-) Because cork might have been very fragile and hard to be pulled out, he brought it to the restaurant and asked for a professional sommelier to take care of it so we could also enjoy fantabulous french food. A very smart decision. :-) The sommelier had a problem to pull it out but he was able to do it finally and we tasted this old aged wine. It was funny tasting first and a very interesting part is every time you sip, the aroma changes. I even laughed out loud first becuase it's completely different from any wine that I know. The color of the wine was also very aged as well (brownish dark red). And I said "Wow, we, 32 years old, are as old as this wine!!!" and that comment sobered us up a little but I am very thankful that I was able to taste this "old" wine with "old" friends. It was a good night even though I had to go off the meds for the asthma thingy. :-) Being aged rocks! You have a pretty week!!

First to comment....what a honor! :-)

I also think it's an honor that this friend would ask you to partake in such an occasion. You seem to have made quite an impression (good one) in elementary school.

What a beautiful thing to say Shigeki. You are truly a sweet and "sentimental" kind of guy.
In a good way, not a sappy one.

Don't Have A Pretty Week,
Have A Beautiful Week!!

I doubt if I can tell the difference between a 32yo wine and cheapo table wine. But I think I can tell a 32yo man from an 18yo twink. :D

A small correction for your blog entry: 32 is old for wine, it is most young an age for friends.

If you're ever going to crack open a 48 year old bottle of Scotch, give me a call :)

The wine is like your shared memories growing up with your friends. You think about them, but each time you reach into your memories, there's a different taste and aroma. Very nice post! Have a good week too!

Hi Maggie,

Yay for the first comment. Thankee! Unfortunately, there aren't many friends who like wine actually. That can be said to each of us actually. That's why. I didn't behave well in elementary school :-) Isn't it such a nice thing of you to say things like that? :-) I am blushed. :-) You have a happy day!

Hi William,

If you experience some, you might be able to. But the most important thing is to enjoy it :-) You have a happy day!

Hi Steve,

Really? 32 years old? really? huh. :-) The oldest scotch I opened was 40 years old. :-) So yeah, when I do (oops,) open 48 years old, I shall :-) You have a happy day!

Hi Joe,

Wine is such a magical drink after all in my personal opinion. Yes. your health condition plays the major role when tasting as well :-) Thanks veyr much. You have a hapy day!

Hi TigerYogi,
