I had to go and pick up something at my grandmother's. It'd been a very long time since I visited her house as she frequently visits me and my parents. Anyway, according to my mother, I cannot reveal the fact that I quit my job and am jobless because it does make me look bad in a very traditional family like my grandmother's. Oh well... well, technically, I am still employed so it wasn't a lie :-) While fixing tea, I saw this thing. I cannot believe she still has this on the wall. The frame of the drawing is so much more fabulous than the drawing :-( This is the only oil painting I have ever done in my life. It was about 12 years ago. I was taking "Introduction to Painting" and did this. I hate oil painting because it will ruin your shirt under any circumstances. I only did this because it was an assignment in college. I don't remember how many questions I asked during the workshop. I am sure the professor didn't like me very much. So I didn't take a photo of this crap closely because you will notice how sloppy the painting actually is. How smart I am. :-) Placing a distance is good to see the non-fantabulous thing instead of taking a close look :-) This is as if when you are in the situation where looking at the hunky nice dude you saw on the ski slope but he doesn't look that nice when he took off his sunglasses. Just like that :-) Anyway, I have nothing else to report but I wish you a wonderful morning/evening!
your grandmother kept your painting! awww! :) it's actually very pretty. what kind of flowers were they?
i know exactly what you mean about the sunglasses. there was this one time, during a trip to vancouver, i was on a ferry boat and i saw this guy. i thought he was really, really hot--tall, broadshouldered, etc. i couldn't see his eyes, though, because he had sunglasses. when he took them off, i saw that his eyes were too small for his face and he just looked weird.
The painting is very pretty, Shigeki. Try as I may, I couldn't identify the flowers in it. Funny analogy, btw. Lol. Happy Thursday!
Considering it was your first effort, it's not that bad! :)
Cyclamen, isn't it? I love you Shigeki, like a distant japanese little brother, but I have to agree with you, paining doesn't rise to the level of that frame. I would scorn anyone that bought it, but you must love you granmother for treating it so well, and I would most likely keep it on the wall too, like she did. My mom put my best oil behind a door, whithout realising it, until I rudly pointed it out to her. I love working in oil, but it's like other pleasures in life Shigeki, you have to think about protection ;)
the painting looks pretty Shigeki!!
I like the painting and it works in that frame. Still waiting for the artist, however, to reveal his series of self-portrait nudes in oil on canvas :)
That was so sweet!! You are so lucky to still have a grandmother, they're great.
They have their funny habits and little quirks.
That is so true about the sunglasses.
Enjoy your work free day. :-)
You're too modest. From here at least it looks like an awfully good painting for your only oil painting ever. And even if it wasn't that good, it's important to your grandmother I am sure because she looks at it and thinks of you. :-)
Of course she saved it, she's a grandma. I think it is the law for grandmas to do things like that :-)
It looks not too bad on the wall! More paintings!
That frame rocks! It makes it look like a proper work of art!! Hope you're feeling completely better now by the way.
that's a lovely painting! it's a Van Gogh in your grandmother's eyes.
Hi Raph,
They are Cyclamen. Very floral :-) The sunglass thingy on the ski slope story is very popular here. I guess the whiteness around him does make him look a lot cuter than he is? I dunno :-) You have a wonderful week!
Hi Mark,
Thank you very much. They are Cyclamen :-) You have a wonderful week!
Hi TigerYogi,
Thank you very much. You have a wonderful week!
Hi Sven,
Yes, you got that right :-) Painting doesn't rise to the level of that frame? really.... Oh well. hehe I hope I can make it better when I do oil painting next time then. You have a wonderful week!
HI TipTup,
Thank you! You have a wonderful week!
Hi Steve,
Thank you very much. I thought it actually turned out better than I thought it would be :-) Isn't self portrait nude in oil too narcissistic? I don't think I will ever do that. :-P You have a wonderful week!
Hi Maggie,
I am sure she will live til she becomes 100 years old so it's a long way to go :-) They are weird, too :-) You have a wonderful week!
Hi T.Kevin,
Thank you very much. I am not too embarrassed by that painting, either :-) I just could have made it a lot better if I really loved painting :-( You have a wonderful week!
Hi Fashmagslag,
Really? Her favorite grandchild is not me so :-) You have a wonderful week!
HI Paul,
Thanks very much but it takes a lot of time to do that painting, you know and I don't have enouh room to do that thing :-( You have a wonderful week!
Hi Birthday Boy, Tim,
Happy Birthday! Yes, it's order made :-) Thanks very much. I am still recovering as this thing lasts three weeks or so according to my doctor. But I am feeling a lot better than earlier this month! Thankee! You have a wonderful week!
HI Joe,
Thank you very much. Hahaha. I haven't shot myself to death yet though :-) You have a wonderful week!
I like the painting. I am going to start taking some art classes now that I am done with school.
