Not a great night.

I am sorry if I don't sound happy and pleasnt today. Here's why. Unfortunately, the restaurant featured in some fashion magazine is supposed to be very famous so many Tokyoites go to a restaurant which was once featured in a fashion or Gourmet magazine. For me, I don't really care for a famous restaurant. If a restaurant serves great dishes with reasonable prices, I am happy. So I don't really care for the name value. I care for the quality. But it's sad that many people would go for a big name. I personally think that lowers the standard here in Tokyo. I went to this Italian restaurant in a snobby district of Tokyo last night. A friend wanted to go so she made a reservation two weeks ago. The dinner was horrible. Is Italian supposed to have a lot of black pepper and you can no longer taste the meat due to too much black pepper? Is Italian supposed to be overcooked pasta so the past is so soft? Well, I am not a sophisticated person, maybe, my taste is so cheap and cannot handle something so sophisticated like the one I had yesterday. Anyway, when I asked for the check, this in the photo was given. Everything was written in Italian. But I don't know many Italian words. Neither do my friends. Since we were going to split the total, I asked the waiter to translate one by one. And he went "This is how we write the check". !!! So here's what I said to him in return. "Okay, if it's so Italian, where is a hot hunky Italian chef with a hot italian sausage? and I am not going to pay in Euros." Yes, wine talking :-) It wasn't the best move of me but I felt so good. Apparently, I am so hoping this restaurant will go out of business anytime soon.
You have a fantabulous week with the right decision for dinner :-)

Advanced booking for 2 weeks and horrible meal. It is really over rated restaurant. You should called the manager and complaint on the food. :)

They don't have a decent Point-of-Sales system to print a bill?

Shigeki you are my hero. that is the right response. HIs snobby bullshit "we do it this way" is crap. That's why I hate snobby places. And I love you for asking for your hunky Italian waither with his sausage!!

I cannot believe that he had the nerve to say that to you!!

And no, that's NOT how Italian food should be! Ack!

Good for you for telling him off! :) Next time, stick with Olive Garden! ;)

P.S. The link is working perfectly to my site! Thanks! :)

i can see Kanji printed on the bill though.

your comment about "Okay, if it's so Italian, where is a hot hunky Italian chef with a hot italian sausage? and I am not going to pay in Euros." IS CLASSIC!

gosh i so going to remember that.

a bad dinning experience turned out to be a great reading for us. you go gal!

You should do more of this "wine-wasted" Shigeki, so we get more "Italian (or whatever nationality) sausage" talk! Love it!!! All that much for a dinner for two? Wow.

I'm still laughing over your response.:-) Good for you!!

What an asshole! Doesn't he realize he's in Japan, not Italy?
I hope you didn't tip him.

hehe. well, you could claim you didn't order any of the items on the bill, so he have to explain it! good for you! the lesson that we all learn from your experience is that we must always ask for the hunky hot italian waither with the hot italian sausage upfront first when ordering our meals!

hm. at ~$200, a blowjob should have come with dinner, especially since it looks like they included a "service" charge [or does "servacio" mean something else?].

Too bad you guys didn't have the best experience. I hope there were more than you and the female friend - that looks like alot of food! So how did your server take the "hot italian sausage" part? If the menu was written in katakana, the check should have been in katakana. I am very curious to know what is Maiale for 4000 yen and what's with this service charge of 1100 yen? Oops, sorry for the rambling...

Hi Lifebook,

Well, I don't think complaining the manager works as it was still food. I mean I didn't see any hair in it. :-) If you don't like it, don't come is their attitude. So that doesn't work unfortunately. you have a good day!

Hi William,

Some restaurants go for non-IT way, I guess :-) You have a good day!

Hi Mark,

Thank you very much but I am not that bitchy when I am sober :-) Well, I like snobby places with right attitudes though but they were awful! Yup, I wanted a hot Italian chef. damn. You have a good day!

Hi TigerYogi,

Well, some are not service oriented even in Japan. :-) But we don't have Olive Garden here and I don't know where to start to explain how Olive Garden is not Italian ;-) I mean it's a good restaurant but it's not Italian IMPO. You have a good day!

Hi Neron,

You are always pain in the ass, aren't ya? I am doing this subtly so you should not have mentioned it. I am deleting your comment with my mighty power. :-) You have a bad day :-P

Hi CircuitBoy,

Well, the Kanji only shows "quantity" "price" and so on in the top row. Everything else was writtein in Italian, you know. Yup, but I don't do that when I am sober so it was alochol talking :-) You have a good day!

Hi Mark,

Well, I don't usually do that but since I was unbelievably mad at their quality... :-) Well, if one bottle of fantabulous wine is involved, the price is about right actually... You have a good day!

Hi Maggie,

On a rare case, there are rude people like that. But thankfully, we don't have tipping system so tip is not required :-) Though they automatically include "servic fees" at those expensive places though :-( You have a good day!

Hi Joe,

That would work, too :-) yes, we hae to have a hot hunky waiter/chef to reinburse all the poor food :-) But I guess that only happens in a porn movie I watched in college days? :-) You have a good day!

Hi Vuboq,

A blowjob? no way. $200 with a bottle of wine is actually normal here at those snobby places. Actually, it's less than the average for sure. Yup, you got it right. Servizio is a service fee there. But it's less than 5% so it's not too bad :-) You have a good day!

Hi LaneO,

I know! But I guess we have to find out what's bad and what's good at some point. So we get wiser :-) The waiter looked very disgusted but we kept laughing at HIM. :) Well, the menu was written in Japanese and Italian. Yeah, your theory should be right !!! Maiale is "pork", I think. It was roasted pork with too much black pepper!! You have a good day!

what i m saying is, the fact that it is a japanese printed reciept further enforce your point!

Quite a few Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc restaurants here give bills in non-English, but I normally find it's the more 'authentic' places that do that (eg: the people working there don't actually speak English!), so I wouldn't normally complain; however, this place of yours sounds like they're just doing it to show off, which is stupid.

Many of you could have observed my post yesterday concerning the sale of Lazy Creek Vineyards inside the Anderson Valley of Mendocino County. This singular producer was purchased by Ferrari-Carano more than the summer time, and I expressed concern that the idiosyncratic character of Lazy Creek wouldn't be in a position to withstand the far more glitzy persona
