Another reason why I shouldn't....
Sat, 7 April 2007

The worst thing about living alone and being single is when you are deadly sick. It doesn't occur to you on a regular basis but it does happen when it does. It happened to me last Thursday and I thought I was going to die. First, I thought I was just under the weather but the lower abdomen started to hurt like mother fudger. I literally passed out from the pain. I don't remember working on my abs to make them fantabulous... So the pain wasn't from that for sure. Or it might be from the imaginary fantabulous abs workout. Anyway, since I live alone and don't have anybody to nurse me, I was very devastated. I realize when I am deadly sick and don't have anybody, the sick gets worse automatically. For those who don't live alone should be grateful. My pain didn't go away and I was severely dehydrated. I needed to see a doctor. I was debating whether I should call an ambulance. Instead, I called my mother and asked her to take me to the hospital. The diagnostic was viral enteritis. I got lots of IVs and meds. I still feel funny but the pain is gone. I am hoping to get back on track by Monday. God, I've never had this before. It was one of the worst ills I have ever dealt. Anyway, yes, a 31 year old single "pathetic" gay guy went to the hospital with his mommy. This is when I "again" realized I need to get myself a husband... You have a pretty "healthy" weekend!

Hey sickling, get well soon!
You are not pathetic for asking your mother to take you to the hospital. If you had a hubby, and he was on international business trip, you wouldnt' think twice about being pathetic for asking your mother to help you, would you?
Now, being 31, living with your mother and she decided to take yiou to the hospital, that might have been pathetic, so you are in the clear Shigeki, I hope that makes you recover faster!
By the way, I saw some young swedish gay guy blogger going to japan in the not so distant future, I recommended him to check you out... or well, your site (at least to start with) So if you are approched, be nice or you will make me look bad (isn't that a nice dilemma?) :)

Poor Shigeki! I hope you're feeling better. I don't know what viral enteritis is, but it sounds nasty. You are always dehydrated, are you drinking enough water? Getting enough rest (di I sound like your mommie?)
Anyway, no shame in going with your mom, it's nice she is around to take you.

Get well soon, Shigeki! Back in Manila, I never go to the doctor without my mom. So what you did was ok. Well, I think. :-)

OMG that was terrible, thank goodness for your mom. That's what mom's are for, no matter if you are male or female we all want them when we are sick.
I was reading up on your illness........it says, you've been in contact with someone who's already infected or because you've ingested contaminated food or water.
And if you are a healthy person you will be fine.
Take Care of Yourself and who needs a husband when you got a mom. :-)

i hope you get well soon, shigeki!
any ideas on where you contracted the virus?
in any case, i don't see anything wrong with you being brought to the hospital by your mother. if not her or anyone else in your family, then who? it's probably better than being taken to the hospital by an ambulance. do you have to pay for ambulatory services in tokyo? here in toronto, you have to pay Cdn$45 (= ¥4664) for the ambulance to take you to the hospital. (they send you a bill in the mail after your trip, though. it's not the case that they demand that you pay before they take you.)
happy easter!

poor shigeki! it truly does suck to be alone and sick. i'm glad you're feeling better though. there's a virus happening here called "norwalk" that causes symptoms quite similar. though most people weather it fairly well (though they'd tell a different story) there are some who end up in hospital because of deydration. every year it hits a nursing home or two, taking a few of the elderly and infirm with it. right now it's making it's second round through the university. i

Hi Sven,
Thank you very much. I realized I was a little embarrassed when my mother took me to the hospital so I came up with that idea :-) About this swedish guy, how young is he? :-) just out of curiosity. Too bad that he missed the fantabulous cherry blossoms though :-( You have a wonderful week!
Hi T.Kevin,
Thank you very much. yes, I feel a little better. Viral enteritis is inflammation of bowel in a nutshell...a.k.a. gaste...something. I couldn't get enough water orally so I got IVs to get hydrated. Now my right arm looks like a junkie's :-) You have a wonderful week!
HI Mark,
Thank you very much. Thanks for the validation :) Well, I called an ambulance when I had a blood clot but it wasn't that urgent so I called my mother :-) You have a wonderful week!
Hi Voboq,
Thanks. You have a wonderful week!
Hi Leigh,
Yes, I am alright. Thank you! But I didn't even think of getting help from a friend in the middle of the weekday. I guess that is not an option for me actually. I don't think I would like to take his/her time for nursing me, you know... so i called my mother :-) You have a wonderful week!
Hi Steve,
Thank you very much. I think it has gotten milder :-) You have a wonderful week!
Hi TigerYogi,
Thank you very much. You have a wonderful week!
Hi Makecurchoice,
Thank you! You have a wonderful week!
Hi Maggie,
Yeah it was terrible. I thought I'd explode.... I am sure it must have been the weird Italian lunch I had on Wednesday with my former coworker as she also got so ill after that Wednesday.... I think I need several more days to recover fully though. Yes, I do need a husband even if I have a mother :-) You have a wonderful week!
Hi Raph,
Thank you very much. I am sure it was the italian lunch I had last week.... Here in Tokyo, if it's urgent, the taxes will cover the transport by the ambulance. So it's all free :-) But I didn't wanna call the ambulance just for a bad case of stomach flu. so... :-) 45 Canadian dollars is not too bad actually? That's what I thought. :-0 You have a wonderful week!
Hi Naomi,
Oh yeah, it truly does. It doesn't even cross my mind until I get sick. That norwalk virus sounds nasty! I wish there was a vaccine for each type of flu on this planet, you know... anyway... you have a wonderful week!
Hi Circuit Boy,
Yeah, it was truly bad. I didn't wanna call an ambulance for the worst case of stomach flu as I had other options. It wasn't too urgent. You have a wonderful week!

Oh my goodness Shigeki.. I'm sooo sorry to hear that you were sick.. Hope you're feeling better now.. It's kinda late.... Hey, nothing wrong with calling Mommy.. I would to if my mom was closer.... Take care Shigeki....Hugs and pray..
