According to the workaholics I ran into, I would be bored to death if I didn't work. Some friends from college told me it would be bad to live without having any purporse or a job. Some others told me I'd feel empty when I got up and realized I didn't have to go to work and didn't have friends to hang out in the middle of the day. As you can tell, many people here in Japan think living without a job is a bad thing or a crime apparently. But I am so glad to tell you I don't feel empty. I am here at a cafe and still reading a newspaper. I didn't even realize how fast I had to read the newspaper to start the day. Now, I don't have to :-) For the rest of this month, I decided not to do anything specific or set up any goal I'd like to achieve. As I am still paid by the "former" work, I don't have to worry about the finance for some time. I may not be able to carry on the life I had until last week but as long as I learn to live "reasonably", I don't have to worry about the job for some time. If I don't have to work at all for the rest of my life, I wouldn't even if many people tell me it would be a bad thing. I said I'd start a thing in May but that was just a business talk. I am thinking of not getting a job for another six months or more.... Anyway, the minimum requirement for my life this month is to get up at 8a.m. even if I don't have to do anything for the day...But I do have an issue to come up with the best answer when "What do you do for living?" is asked. That's something I have to think about. That's the biggest problem in my life right now. :-) Now, I am off to the gym and will enjoy the luxurious moment when it's emptier :-) I like the emptier gym. You have a happy week!
i wish i had your situation right now. i'd much rather hang out and do nothing than have to go to school...wait..that's what i've been doing all weekend :) nevermind.
Sounds like a nice relaxing day... It gets easy to get used to.
Yes the emptier gym is nice! I am lucky in that I can go on my lunch in the middle of the afternoon.

You are very fortunate that you can afford to take your time in choosing your next job.
If people ask you what you do for a living, why don't you tell them that you are on a "sabbatical" for however many months and leave it at that! :)
Enjoy your time off! Maybe you could start blogging about the daily things that you can do around Tokyo! I for one would find that very interesting! :)
I would kill to be in your position!! I need one after working non stop for the last 10 years....I need some sabbitical time but as you know being in Asia, people tend to worry about jobs!! I unfortunately have succumb to this pressure. I wish I knew how to tear myself from this vicious cycle!!
since you lots of time on your side... ENJOY it... Talk to you later
Adious ....
I am so jealous. Enjoy your time off.
You can also say you are self employed :)
don't we all envy you Shigeki! I'm currently looking for a new position but I can't afford to quit my current job! enjoy the sunshine!
Hi Naomi,
hehehe. Well, I am not sure if it's going to be fantabulous but I will see how it goes :-) You have a wonderful day!
Hi TK,
I am sure it does. But I wonder if I can ever go back to work :-) I was always jealous of those people who can go to the gym in the middle of the day! Now I can do that! yay. A lot of cruizy situations or emptier gym? I'd choose the latter. :-) You have a wonderful day!
Hi TigerYogi,
Well, this is what I had planned last year when I submitted my resignation letter :-) Thanks for the suggestion. sabbatical is hard to translate as we do not have that concept. I don't think I could blog about the daily things every day but like I used to in the past, I sure will from time to time :-) You have a wonderful day!
HI Ian,
Although my father is not happy with this decision, it's my life so :-) I think I need some time off to re-focus on what I want to do and since I am not smart enough, I need some decent time to think :-) hehehe. Yup, people tend to worry about jobs. But I guess that's good too. They always go for some job security. You have a wonderful day!
Hi Cesar,
Well, there are some drawbacks about this before you get to be jealous :-) Like it's not common to do this here in Japan so it won't look good on my resume when I want to work again. :-) You have a wonderful day!
Hi Tiputup,
Well, before you happen to envy me, there are some that I menioned. It would be a lot more hard to get a job next time when I want to because having some time off is not really looking good on resume! But I took that risk :-) You have a wonderful day!
Q:"What do you do for living?"
A:"i live for a living"
Yeah, I had a 3-month gap on my CV (aka resume) when I moved to London, and I got questioned about it when I joined the agency last year to get my current job ..... I think it's none of their business, but you can't tell them that.
PS: Enjoy your new relaxed lifesyle. As long as you're not the kind of person who will worry about not working then take as long as you like, it's great not working!
