YAMAGUCHI!!! sweet! I loved going to Yamaguchi (especially Hagi)!
It's funny that you think Yamaguchi dialect is fem. My students (in Fukuoka) would always talk about how fem Tokyo men sounded ;-)

headquarters of the family - family's hometown or family seat (though that sounds a bit odd)

Damn. I was hoping for a close-up of the hottie priest!

Very interesting! :)
May I ask which sect of Buddhism your family belongs to?

Interesting and educational as always, thank you Shigeki! :-)
It looks very pretty in Yamaguchi

you can say that yamaguchi is your family's hometown and not 'headquarters'.
why do you say that the yamaguchi dialect is softer? do they use different words in yamaguchi than in tokyo? i suppose things are pronounced slightly differently there....

My guy who knows his Japanese and has lived in Tokyo before wrote for me Yamaguchi in kanji and it makes sense, the mouth of the mountain. :-) Yay, another thing I learned from today just by viewing your slides. And no, they're not non-exciting. :-)

I have learnt another new word in Japanese....Although I hardly speak any Japanese nowadays, it is good to see some familiar pictures and coming from you - even more educational!! :-)
All these hottie guys eh???? I should not have left Japan :-(

Really nice garden at your uncles Shigeki.
So how come the family seat is in Yamaguchi and you say you are from Tokyo? How far back in time do you go regarding family seats?
There was a norwegian talk show yester eve, they were talking about cultural identity, and someone said that to be a real norwegian you need to come from a place ("et sted") in Norway, not just live there. Makes it very difficule to be an immigrant in Norway. Sounds like the family seat might be along those lines?

Oh by the way, one of my co-workers in the TI department has the last name Yamaguchi!

Your uncle was a hottie but you are not genetically related to him? Don't be so modest, I'm sure you're a hottie too! ;-P

Hi Vuboq,
Yup, it was nice. :-) That's so interesting that you used to go to Hagi instead of Yamaguchi. I like Yuda-onsen better :-) Yup, I find Yamaguchi dialect is fem compared to other dialcets around the area. Like Hiroshima, it's so masculine and I find it sounds scary for Tokyoites. Fukuoka is masculine as well. These dialects are considered a little "yakuza"-ish for Tokyo people. Compared with that, Yamaguchi dialect is so soft and fem :-) You have a fantabulous day!
Hi Naomi,
Thanks very much. Family seat :-) That's the word. You have a fantabulous day!
Hi Paul,
Oh, he is not that hot but he is relatively hot so :-) You have a fantabulous day!
Hi TigerYogi,
Thanks very much. Which sect? um... My father's side belongs to Nichiren if it rings any bells. My mother is catholic. :-) I am half Nichiren. :-) BTW, don't mix Nichiren with that cult, please :-) You have a fantabulous day!
Hi TK
Thanks very much. :-) There are so many pretty places outside of Tokyo and I am trying to explore them after quitting my work :-) Spring is the perfect timing! YOu have a fantabulous day!
Hi Raph,
Thanks for the word. The reason why I say the Yamaguchi dailect is softer is yes, they do use different words and the way speak differs depending on the gender actually. We use different words and different accents. But Yamaguchi guys sound so unisex. :-) That's what I meant. You have a fantabulous day!
HI Mark,
Yup, there are so many mountains in Yamaguchi prefecture. So the name of the place is so right. :-) I am glad you learnt something new but I am sure this is not that useful knowledge :-) You have a fantabulous day!
Hi Ian,
Well, I am sure you can live without knowing the word as this place is so not popular :-) But it's good. You have a fantabulous day!
HI Sven,
Well, it's a long story but my great grand father was the youngest child of all in that family so he didn't have to take over the family thing as the first born son did. So he came to Tokyo and ever since then, we are Tokyoites. Since a real tokyoite is considered the one whose family have lived in Tokyo for three generations including him/herself, officially, I am a real Tokyoite :-) You have a fantabulous day!
Hi TK,
Yup, Yamaguchi is a common family name. Christie Yamaguchi who is the gold medalist :-) There are so many Yamaguchi-s here, too. :-)
Hi GBD,
Oh, I wasn't referring so. I said it because I thought it woluld have been inappropriate to mention it if I was related. :-) But yeah, since you mentioned it, that too. I am hardly a hottie. :-( You have a fantabulous day!
