I would agree that the silly note appears very north american too me as well, never seen anything like that in europe or asia either. Kind of counter prodictive for business obviously...
Sounds like your journey is drawinmg to it's close now, and i gott thank you for sharing it in such details. I've been extremly busy at work, and your reports have been a very nice window of freedom to turn to. But singing to strangers in the street, are you trying to get ticket money to go home? ;)

I guess there must be a lot of karaoke in the States ... you seem to find it everywhere you go!! We used to have Safeway here in the UK, but for as long as I can remember it was never that great, and it got taken over recently by Morrisons, so now we don't have Safeway any more. Oh well.

i don't shop at safeway since their anti-union tactics that put bran out of work. i haven't shopped there since 1991. there are tons of other, equally good, stores to shop at. i don't need to support abominable labour practices.

All this travel and no trips to Canada. My country is being punished :)

As for the sign on the Sushi, eating raw spinach has killed a few Americans and made a lot more sick recently and I don't see any signs warning of THAT!

Those little commuter jets make me nervous. I hate it when I have to fly in one. My favorite grocery store is Whole Foods (also known as Whole Paycheck).
*smooches*

I've never heard of bagel bread! Hmm, looks interesting. Now I am hungry. Sounds like a nice fun trip up the west coast. *sigh* To are too brave, doing all that karaoke... but maybe you can sing better than me (almost everyone can).

Have a safe trip back to Japan!

that sign for the sushi actually surprises me but it shouldn't. a few years ago, a woman sued a major fast-food chain--i think it was mcdonald's--because she got scalded while drinking her coffee. her complaint was that the fast-food chain didn't put a label on her coffee saying that it would be hot. she won the case. :/

sometimes, i'm really amazed at many north americans' lack of common sense and basic awareness/knowledge of one's surroundings.

Raph. I'm usually all up for jumping up and down on litigious Americans' heads for how silly they can be. but the McDonalds Case is a bad example to use. In simple terms the facts were:
1:The coffee was 20 degrees hotter than in any other store/chain/restaurant.
2. at that temp, it would (and did) cause 3rd degree burns in 3 seconds (the worst kind of burns, which require skin grafts).
3. McDonalds knew this, knew the risks and said openly that they didn't think it was worth doing anything about because considering they serve a billion cups a year, a few burns would not be a big deal.

see, that, i did not know. and mcdonald's should have been more careful about the temperature that they serve their coffee in.

however, it was still coffee and it was still hot. one doesn't just go about putting hot things in one's mouth without making sure that one won't burn one's self.

Like others have mentioned, the sign is there so that the business can't be sued. It's really ridiculous how American society no longer takes responsibility for their own actions...

Not too shabby a room for $60/night.

There is a bread company here that has just started making square bagels. They are not as good as the real bagels but I love the fact that they are square. The filling doesn't fall out.

You make me smile when I think of you singing in front of strangers. That's probably the best people to sing to, you'll never see them again. :-)

Hi Sven,

I guess they wanted customers to take their own responsibility? But I still found it was weird :-0 I am so sorry that you've been busy at work. I hope things will get back to normal and less busier!!! You have a wonderful day!

Hi Tim,

Well, actually, I try to find if there is any Karaoke night at a homo bar :-) That's why. :_) I didn't know you used to have Safeway there in the UK! That was actually new information though I am sorry it's shut down :-( You have a wonderful day!

HI Naomi,

I am so sorry that Safeway did something awful! I didn't know. So it's very undrestandable why you haven't shopped. I think that's very legitimate. You have a wonderful day!

HI Steve,

Well, I have visited your country in the past actually. But I don't get to do that often... That's right. E-coli thingy. I guess I found it really silly when they had to put it up there. :-) You have a wonderful day!

Hi Vuboq,

I like the little jet as well as you can experience bumpy rides more :-) But I understand your concern. yup. I've never been to WHole Foods before :-( You have a wonderful day!

Hi T.Kevin,

The bagel bread is interesting. :=) Yes, it's been pretty nice and I usually do sing like that when I am very drunk. I shouldn't but I did :-) You have a wonderful day!

Hi Raph,

I didn't knowp there was such an incident before at the Mcdonald's! But I find it still interesting how companies have to put up the warnings :-) Thanks for the input. You have a wonderful day!

Hi Mark,

Thanks for bringing it up. I didn't know :-) But that's so scary that Mcdonalds knew it would make them the third degree burns. ew. That's so scary.... You have a wonderful day!

Hi TigerYogi,

Yup, I find it very American :-) But I found it really less appetizing when I had to see that. I wonder if I will see something like that everywhere I go for Sushi.... You have a wonderful day!

Hi Maggie,

NOt at all :-) I find the square bread wonderful becasue you won't have to worry about the "hole" when you put stuff so things won't fall off :-) I wonder if I made myself look like a fool but at least, I didn't get booed :-) You have a wonderful day!
