1... Both in Japanese and in English, there is an expression which you say after getting a gift or something. "You shouldn't have". um.... just "I love it! Thank you!" will do. I am sorry but I am not particularly fond of that expression. 2... It's ridiculously warm here in Tokyo, these days. It's supposed to be November but it doesn't feel like it. The high for today will be 23 degrees celsius = 73 degrees Fahrenheit. And people say this might be associated with the global warming effect. I am glad I didn't plan to make a trip to do the leef peeping this year then. :-) They will turn yellow/red eventually? I am keeping my fingers crossed.
3... My boss told me there was a major problem on this one particular server (A bigger version of the computer). I kinda knew what was gonna happen by looking at the histroy logs last week but I didn't really bring it up because I didn't wanna deal with it. The server monitoring person should have caught it though. And all I did in response to his comment was "SERIOUSLY! OH NO!" by covering my mouth. I am tired of acting.... But I continue.
You have a fantabulous Tuesday!
Warm in November? How odd!
Hmmm.. you can wear the sexy cloth then.. :)
Totally agee that it has been a warm autumn but the temperature has since drop tonight. Feels like 15 C just now!
I wish I can act but being a true boring accountant, I believe I fail miserably on this acting front!! Anyway I had a shitty today so I hope you had a good day!! :-)
People like you make this world miserable. Can you tell me where you work? I can call your boss to fire you.
It's a bit warm here too. In the 80's, normally it's colder than that.
You are such a good actor. When do you start your new job?
“You shouldn’t have” sounds fake and not sincere, like in Britney Spears’ song “Oops I did it again”. Still warm in autumn and hazey air all day long, which is worse? Get me out of the haze!!
"SERIOUSLY! OH NO!" Haha. At my company, we blame everyone else except our own application when server problems happen.
Sensei? How do you say, "SERIOUSLY! OH NO!" in Japanese? All I can come up with is: SOO DESU KA?! This company is so going to cry when you leave.

Realted to 'you shouldn't have' was something my mother would do when we would aske her what she wanted for her birthday or christmas: "Oh don't get me anything." Riiiight.
Server: oh no! LOL! SO what's wrong with it? Geek out on us Shigeki; I might understand half of it.
TK
I suppose in Japan that phrase is part of 'enryo', though every culture in the world seems to value modesty when receiving gifts. But I agree-- it would be much nicer to hear 'thank you, I love it!' more often.
It's been "unseasonably warm" here in L.A., too. Yesterday, it was over 30 (90+), but it didn't stop me from buying a gorgeous tweed and suede Coach handbag at the outlet. Fall/winter fabric in the summerlike heat!
I had a hard time reading the Japanese families I was very close to. I always try to bring food or some small gift when visiting, especially when staying overnight, but they always say, "You shouldn't have." I wonder if it's because of the Japanese tradition of "okaeshi" or returning gifts, or do you think it's because I've passed some sort of invisible barrier and entered the level of closeness where gifts are no longer expected? Or are they even truly expected by Japanese hosts when inviting guests over? Just more random thoughts at 6:30 a.m. (^_^)
Hi Paul,
Yeah, it's odd. But it's cooling down these days so I am sure it will be back to normal soon. :-) You have a fantabulous Thursday!
Hi Lifebook,
Oh, too bad. It's getting colder actually. Maybe, next summer. :-) You have a fantabulous Thursday!
HI Ian,
According to the weather forecast, it will be a lot cooler later this week. Make sure you don't get any cold! I am sorry your last week isn't going well for you! They should be burnt in hell for sure. !!! You have a fantabulous Thursday!
HI Chai,
Well, I'd rather not tell you where I work. But don't worry about the me getting fired part. :-) I will be quitting soon. Thanks for the offer though.
Hi Cesar,
I hear some other parts of the worlds are warmer as well just like your city. I wonder if this has anything to do with the effect really... Well, I haven't set my heart on any job offer yet. So I am still looking. When I know I take a job position, I will quit so it will be sometime in the first quarter of 2007! You have a fantabulous Thursday!
Hi Leggie,
Yeah, but some say with a great inhaling and gasps like a bad actress/actor. (i.e. Britney Spears). :-) You mean sticky? hmmm.. we have sticky humid weather in summer and we have dry chilly air in autumn.... cannot decide.... You have a fantabulous Thursady!
Hi William,
hahaha. That's convenient. I wish I could blame somebody but if I did that, I will get a crazy back fire for sure. :-( You have a fantabullous Thursday!
Hi LaneO,
What did I say? I said something like マジですかぁ!やばいですよー。(majidesuka! yabaidesuyo!) If I translate it directly, it would mean "SERIOUSLY? THAT'S so no-no!" oh, it actually makes sense. :-) Well, I am sure they won't miss me when I leave since I am lazy. You have a fantabulous Thursday!
Hi T.Kevin,
Oh, I know! And I was so wondering what would happen if you said "then, i will take it back to the store". I know it's mean but I've literally said that to my mother once when she kept saying something like that more than twice. :-) The problem was the server monitor guy moved the paging file from C to D drive. For some reason, that was screwed up even though it would be a simple procedure. I knew he screwed up last week but I didn't really bring it up as it's not my job. :-) The server got so frozen during biz hours because the virtual memory was not available anymore. That wasn't pretty... You have a fantabulous Thursday!
Hi Fashmagslag,
yes, you are totally right. It's from "mauvaise honte". :-) That's so unnecessary and some people over do it.... That's when it bothers me much. But I guess I am under the stress so I feel more crappy when I hear it when I don't feel anything wrong when I am not under the stress :-) You have a fantabulous Thursday!
Hi GaijinGirl,
30? wow, that's too hot in November but it's LA :-) It's sometimes very hard for me even to read what they really think of something like that. And I hate those aunties who try to split the bill but one of them insists to cover all in front of the cashier. Aunties! I am still waiting! :-) I don't think they try to make it any barrier or anything. They are just like that. They do that to me even. No worries, it happens to Japanese even. But the story will be different if you are in Kyoto. :-) You have a fantabluous Thursday!
Hands down, Apple's app store wins by a mile. It's a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I'm not sure I'd want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
