Halloween
Tue, 31 October 2006

Halloween is not really happening here in Tokyo actually but it's halloween. By the way, I don't see pumpkins like those in the photo taken in Boston earlier this month... Pumpkins here are so different.... Anyway, I thought I'd share this story that is almost shared among junior high students. This story is very popular among them. When I was one of them which was many years ago (ugh!), I got to know this, and it was very good. But I realized this had to be shared verbally. The essence of the story cannot be kept as much if I shared it in text. Also, I translated it into English so it's different...but use your imagination to get the story please. Happy Halloween, everybody! They were a lovely family on the surface: a father, a mother, and their 5-year-old son. However, the man and his wife didn’t get along well. After a sexless 5-year relationship, they hated each other. The man was irritated by everything his wife did. He seriously hated her in every possible way you can imagine. He wanted a divorce, so he asked for it, but she refused. Then he calculated how much life insurance he would get if he killed his wife.
On the fateful day, the man decided to kill his wife while their son was at school. He buried her body in the park. What a relief for him. The next day, the kid kept asking his dad where his mom was. The man realized if he didn’t have the kid, he could be completely free to start a new life. So, he decided to kill his kid, too.
A week later, Dad took his son to the same park at night, when it was deadly silent. The time had come. The father decided to kill his son and bury him next to his mother’s body. The 5-year-old knew something awfully wrong was about to happen to him. He asked, “I know you want to make me go away, but can I ask you something first?” The dad snapped, “What is it?!” The kid stared at his dad and said, “Daddy, why are you carrying mommy on your back all the time?”

Now I know where Shutter (horror film from Thailand) got its inspiration for the latter part of the film... That's darn scary!!!

In keeping with your theme, may I share this true story. My friend's co-worker was sharing how she was having Thanksgiving dinner at home with her young daughter and had invited her brother and his wife. While they were eating suddenly both her brother and his wife stopped and she saw their eyes widen and stare behind her moving in unison from one side to the other. So she asked them, "Oh, you saw him?" And they asked if she had a ghost living with them. She confirmed and told them that the house was like some kind of portal. It was an elderly Japanese man that sometimes the daoghter would talk to. Although this story is not spooky, the woman and her daughter moved to another home - across the street. No ghost there. We actually have alot of obake stories here in Hawaii. Really scary!

If their 5-year marriage is a totally sexless one, and they still managed to have a child, are you telling me the child is not their real son??
Ah, the plot thickens...

Flannery--maybe they stopped having sex after she got pregnant with the 5-year-old. It does take about 9 months for the bun to pop out of the oven, ya know? ;-D
Shigeki--I think your real encounters with dead people are scarier! But still a scary story! Thanks for the Hallowe'en chills...

All, I am sorry if some of you didn't get this. But the mother was a ghost and was on his back all the time without the father noticing her. But the son was able to see her all the time on his back. Get it? It was a freaking scary story among highschool kids. really. :-)
