As much as I study it, Japanese to me sounds like Japanese. I have no ear for dialects when it comes to that language, but I'll take your word for it and find myself a Kanazawa guy soon enough. ;-) Enjoy your business trip!

I hope that you do find the time to enjoy yourself while you're there!

I wonder how Kanazawa-ben sounds like. I can only speak Ibaraki-ben. そうだっぺよ~~

Chanced upon your blog and found it a riveting read. Nothing like a native Japanese to relate the intricacies and nuances of Japanese culture not covered in the Frommer's or Lonely Planets.
You really do work too hard though.

You are certainly hardworking Shigeki! Can't imagine being without a weekend for so long! Hope you have great sushi over there! Save some sashimi for me!!

I'm hoping you will find some time to have fun on your trip.
The good side is you will have a lot of air miles for your vacation. :-)

I use to fly every week whilst i was working outside Japan! I would say I spend nearly 80% of my time out of the country and it was fun but tired! Now working full time in Japan, i'm having withdrawal symptons not visiting airport and seeping champagne at the business lounges!! ;-)
you have a good week at Kanazawa!! I must really find the time to spend sometime out of Tokyo!!

Kanazawa! I stayed a night there once about 9 years ago. You're doing touristy things, too? I hope you got to see the Ninja House - that's cool! Enjoy the awesome Kaga cuisine! Nature's rich bounty seems to be enjoyed in Kanazawa. Pity the cherry blossom season is long gone - I was there just after the sakura had finished (too quickly) in Tokyo and saw a stunning display in the huge park in the centre of the city. (Kenrokuen, I think)
From reading your blog, the word "weekend" in either English or Japanese, seems to be a word you have an understanding of, but little real experience of. I hope you can put theory into practice!

Oh geez, I've never met anyone who has worked more than you have already. Do you get the mileage points for the business flights you take? Just wondering. I hope you find some nice guy while there and would really be able to take in some sights. Cheers!

Hi Logan,
I totally understand what you mean. However, if you pay more attention to it and listen to it more frequently, you can get to know the difference. Though it's not necessary to know that even if you were in Japan. :-) Oh yeah, Kanazawa guys are so sexy. :-) You have a fantabulous week!
Hi Hanuman,
Thank you very much. Fortunately, I was able to do the touristy thingies on Sunday. I will upload the photos tomorrow. You have a fantabulous week!
Hi Hafiz Hector,
The dialect is very much similar to Kansai actually. I am sorry to say this but I don't find Ibaraki-ben sexy. :-) You have a fantabulous week!
Hi Falnnery,
Welcome to my site! I see you're from Amsterdam! How fantabulous as I lived there for some time. :-) I am not sure if I happen to cover the exciting thing like Lonely Planet as I happen to care about small non-touristy thingies... :-) You have a fantabulous week!
Hi Paul,
Well, I just happen to work longer. that's about it. It doesn't mean I am hardworking. :) Oh yes, I did have great sushi and sashimi! It was fantabulous! you have a fantabulous week!
Hi Maggie,
yes, I was able to find some time to have fun. I actually try to have fun as much as possible when I am here. PG-13 kind of fun. I get a lot of miles so I happen to get my friends free tickets every once in a while.. I don't have enough vacations to burn them... You have a fantabulous week!
Hi TK,
Well, I am not sure if it's fun. :-) But thanks very much. I will have some weird Japanese education posted tommorrow. You have a fantabulous week!
Hi Ian,
Wow, flying every week? That's insane. I wouldn't wanna do that. These two months are the craziest for me so I don't have to do that next month :-) I am having a fantabulous time here. I hope you don't have to work too hard! Please make sure you list Kanazawa as a city to visit before you leave! You have a fantabulous day!
Hi Hyakunincho (Wait a minute, that is the town in the ward in which my parents live.)
Welcome to my site! Yes, I did touristy thingies yesterday. But since this is not the first time, I didn't focus on touristy thingies exclusively. I find Kanazawa very recommendable to non-Japanese because people are nice and there are so many things you can experience even if the city is small. :-) You have a fantabulous week!
Hi Mark,
Well, you should meet more Japanese so that way you can easily meet people who work more than I do. :-) Yes, I do get mileage points on biz but domestic flights are very short so I don't get a lot of points like I usually do for international biz trips. You have a fantabulous week!

ほやろう!金沢って最高や…
Shigeki...
Hello from London. I hope you had a great time in Kanazawa, which you rightly call "one of the [most] beautiful traditional cities" in Japan. Great culture, fantastic cuisine and fabulous people - exactly! Did you get a chance to go to 近江町市場 (the Kitchen)? What about a night out in 片町 near the 犀川? I lived there for seven years and miss it every day - the mountains, the sea and the weather. 素晴らしい!
Did you hear any Kanazawa ben? There is not much of it around anymore - only single words or phrases - which is sad. Let's hope that some people keep using it!
