My little brain is draining...
Thu, 6 July 2006
The hosting server service I am subscribing seems to be having problems lately. Whenever I contact them, they never ever ever say "sorry". How fun. By the way, I talked about "this" today, and it seems I am mistakenly in because my art skil is not brilliant obviously by looking at those sketches. (Seriously, I am not proud of them but I thought I'd do this regularly to deliver a non-exciting message in a not-so-digital way). Anyway, I think I was very lucky. :-) I will have to sleep on it. Other than that, my life is pretty much quiet this week. Please click the photo if it's too small to read. Thanks. You have a fantabulous day!

Woohoo! First comment!!
Shigeki-san, I say give it a shot! Take a sabbatical! Didn't you say that you were thinking of leaving that job soon anyway?
If it doesn't work out, go back to your chosen profession.
How many chances like this do you get? :)

congratulations on being accepted! you really are a talented drawer. i can't draw my way out of a wet paper bag, even my stick figures suck.
hanuman is right. you have your current career that you're happy with, and it'll still be there after if you want to return to it.
making changes is hard, and creates many headaches. however, i'm 45 and in school too. :) trust yourself, shigeki.

I "third" the motion. Someday when you're a big and famous artiste, we can all say, "We knew Shigeki way back when..." Go for it!
Posted by: GaijinGirl at July 6, 2006 06:35 PM
Shigeki, I have three university degrees, all taken as an adult, all taken only after quitting career jobs.
DO IT. Even if you don't ever make art a full time pursuit, you should chase this opportunity. It sounds wonderful and you'll be much more qualified (than you already are!) to paint my portrait!
Good luck with your decision. If your head hurts it's because you're using your head too much on this one :) Try your heart! Follow your passion on this one and you'll make the right decision.
Oh, and your sketch is again, of course, so nice.

Congratulations on being accepted!
You have a touch decision ahead of you but I am sure you will make the right one.

Shigeki-san. I agree with Steve. I have watched him and others go get degrees as 'grown ups' and I myself finished my one lonely degree when I was over thirty (I was fortunate not to be the oldest graduand at the ceremony, as when one woman's name was called, some teenage boys yelled out "yaay Grandma!!" Do it, quit, travel, study, enjoy, learn. Because in 4 years (or whenever it is done) if you want you'll still be qualified to do this job you have now. Jobs can be found anywhere, any time. Dreams need to be chased.

Go chase your dreams my friend! This opportunity will hardly come up again! Don't think too hard, Take it easy in the weekend and as Steve said - follow your heart! Sometimes the heart makes the right decision without you knowing!

Hi Shigeki, I'm at my mom's neighbors this time online. :-) Thank you, I'm having a wonderful vacation. "Absolutely fantabulous", to quote a great man. :-)
That's a tough dilemma sweetie.
On one hand, a job you like with an income. You love Japan, your friends, family, familiar routines, etc.
On the other hand, exploring a part of yourself that is exciting but scary. It's all about dreams. Some reach out, others take the safe way.
If you really want it, go for it. Age is irrelevant.
Good luck with your decision. :-) I luv your drawings!

congratulations shigeki! sure is tough changing fields altogether when you're already comfortable and successful. but think of how much more excited you would be. good luck with the decision!

You should totally go for this. Just do it. Don't worry about age in the least. I got my BA at 28, my MA at 29, and now I'm working on my Ed.S at 30. Education is a lifelong process, and you should pursue it.
And I don't know about anyone else, but dude, YOU CAN DRAW. Be proud of that, and go with it. Just remember, I get to come to a gallery opening...;)
Now, I'm going back to practice my stick men drawings.

change is always scary, shigeki. however, it can be good for you.
i suggest that you go and try it out. you can always return to the job you currently have (if not at that company, then at another). but, how often can you get into graduate school?
anyway, whichever decision you decide to make, you have my support.
good luck!

Hi Hanuman1960,
Yay for the first comment. :-) I am trying to consider it but I need to face the reality too. Like moving out of Tokyo is one of the hardest thing to do. Thanks for the advice! I will think about my optioins and come up with the best. you have a wonderful day!
Hi Naomi,
Thank you very much. Since the program I got accepted is a digital thingy, I think my drawing skills won't matter fortunately. :-) IT is something that doesn't wait for you. It changes quite a bit in two years. But I will think about it and come up with the great option! Thanks! You have a wonderful day!
Hi GaijinGirl,
Thank you for "third-ing" it. :-) hahaha, i don't think I'd be famous if I took the route because I always like working as a corporate slave. :-) I'd love to be just the average. Yup. You have a wonderful day!
Hi Steve,
Wow, you got three degrees after you became an adult? Wow. If the school was in Tokyo, it's no brainer. But moving to Europe is such a hard thing to do considering I don't speak the local language there. But I will think about it. :-) hehehe, unfortunately, it's not a traditional art program so I don't know if they teach me how to paint. :-) Following my heart sounds good, too. :-) thanks for the advice. You have a wonderful day!
Hi Cesar,
Thank you very much. It sure was a nice surprise. :-) I will think about it and what would be the best. You have a wonderful day!
Hi Mark,
I think studying at the age of 31 years old is not that hard but I cannot do part time and I have to move out of this country. That's the hardest part. :-) It's a two year programme but I wonder what options will be available after graduation... huh... I will think about it. Thanks for your input. You have a wonderful day!
Hi Ian,
To be honest, this is not one of the dreams. I didn't even think about it. But this blogger who is a graphic designer suggested me to apply. I didn't think I had that thing in me. Yup, following the heart sounds great but it's scary. :-) I will try to come up with the best thing for me. You have a wonderful day!
Hi Maggie,
I am glad you are having a fantabulous vacation. :-) I know it's toughy but I will think about what would be the best and gradually come up with the best decision I have to make. I am not sure if I really want it. That's the question since I had never thought about this until this guy suggested me.. YOu have a wonderful day!
Hi Tiptup,
Thank you very much! You know I can never be successful in the art thingy or support myself even... But I will think about it and how I can come up with the choice I need to make. YOu have a wonderful day!
HI JaSoN,
Welcome back :-) That's so great that you got those degrees in your late 20s. I could never do that. The age thing. huh... You see, I was hoping I would totally drive a kick ass car when I become 35 or something. :-) But I could if I become successful.. I don't know. I will think about it. Thanks for your insight! You have a wonderful day! Hahaha on practicing your stick men drawings. That's cute.
Hi Raph,
Yes, it is. It wasn't that scary when I was younger... Well, I am 100% sure I will not come back to this company after I quit. no no no. :-) I will sleep on it and come up with a great decision hopefully. Thanks for your advice. You have a wonderful day!

I'm so thrllled that you followed up on this opportunity, and now you're accepted! You have to do it! You're going to fulfill your dreams if you do. XXOO
