The Sakura (Cherry Blossom) Boulevard

Sat, 1 April 2006

This is supposed to be the last day for Cherry Trees in full bloom we could appreciate as it will be raining tomorrow. Unlike last year, it's been chilly here in Tokyo. Because of this colder weather, Sakura (Cherry Blossoms) lasted longer. It's virtually every Tokyoite's "to-do" to go see Cherry Blossoms in full bloom around this time of the year. Therefore, everywhere where has a lot of Cherry Blossoms is crowded. Since I don't want to take a photo of drunk guys under the trees, I decided to get up early and enjoy Cherry Blossoms by changing the running route this morning. This is the closest to my home and the most common place for Cherry Blossoms. It was beautiful and quiet in the morning. These trees were all to myself. :-) I am selfish. Yes. The photo didn't turn out darn well but I hope you get a sense of what they are. Please click the photo for a better one. By the way, it's April 1st. I started blogging on this day last year. It's been a year. I appreciate every one of you who visits and comments here. :-) I will keep blogging "NON-EXCITINGLY". You have a fantabulous Saturday!

Happy blog birthday! This morning the local supermarket was packed with people buying snacks and drinks for Saturday morning hanami, but I don't think our cherry blossoms are quite at their peak yet. In Mitoya (about 2 hours from Hamada), there is a species of green sakura that doesn't blossom until the leaves appear on the trees. I hope I can see them again before I leave Shimane!

We have a double celebration in the house! Happy 1st blogging anniversary, Shigeki! Jay (But Enough About You) is celebrating his 6th year since he landed in London. Great pic! Wish I was walking underneath those fine cherry blossoms... Happy Saturday!

Shigeki-san, omedetō! Congratulations for a year of "non-exciting scribbles"!!! And thank you for the beatiful pictures of the sakura you posted. You may think it is bad but I think it's post card perfect. Of course you were there and got to experience it personally, it's not quite the same feeling for you in the picture. Whenever I see your cherry blossom pics, that "Sakura" song keeps running in my head - with koto playing in the background. I was supposed to visit my friends in Tōkyō for hanami and I didn't make it. Too bad you can't post pictures of people "enjoying themselves" in the locker room here (insert evil laugh).

That's a beautiful picture. Happy blog anniversary Shigeki. I hope you keep writing :-) GB

Aye. You are so absolutely fortunate to live in such a beautiful country. Have a "fantabulous" anniversary, and watch out for those "Happy Fool's Day" pranksters if you have that in Japan.

(April 1st is often celebrated here in the USA with people playing friendly practical jokes on each other) :P

Happy 1st Blog Anniversary!! In honor you should have something bronzed, your mouse perhaps? Just joshin' ya.
Your picture was absolutely beautiful and the fact that you got up early to save us from the drunks under the trees was much appreciated.

To be able to run in the morning in such a picturesque environment does make me very envious.

Hi Logan,

Thanks very much. :-) Well, I don't know how I can take good photos but I am trying. :-) You have a great day!

Hi Ca va pas la tete,

Yeah, it really was a beautiful moment. :-) Too bad, they are being blown away by strong winds today... no more cherry blossoms.... :-( You have a great day!

Hi GaijinGirl,

Thank you. When I drove around in Tokyo yesterday, everywhere was crowded because of a lot of people trying to get to the Sakura spots. It took me 40 minutes to get to where I wanted to go to while it usually takes 10 minutes..... It was a crazy Sunday. You have a great day!

Hi Mark,

Yay. Thanks very much. It was really beautiful yet I hope I could capture the feelings as much as possible. How would I do that? Anyway, you have a great day!

Hi Lane,

Thank you very much! It's not exactly how I thought it would turn out but oh well. :-( I used to play "Sakura" for the first time when I took a Shamisen lesson (Japanese Guitar). :-) I think I can still play it :-) Too bad that you couldn't come over here for Cherry Blossom Viewing thingy... But I hope you can make it some time. :-) You have a great day!

Hi GayBoyDiary,

Thanks very much, GB! (there is actualy a bar called GB here in Tokyo which is a gay bar that is supposed to be for potato and rice queens.) I don't have any plan to stop blogging at the moment. I shall see. :-) Good day!

Hi SeekerOnos,

I am absolutely sure that the United States of America has something as beautiful as this is. :-) Thank you very much. Forutnately, April Fools are not that common here in Tokyo so I didn't get pranked. :-) You have a good day!

Hi Steve,

Thanks very much. :-) I hope it will be many more years to come for my blogging but I will see. You have a good day!

HI T.Kevin,

Oh! Happy Blog Birthday to you, too! I hope you keep blogging as well. :-) Good day!

Hi Maggie,

Thanks very much. :-) Unfortunately, I don't use a mouse actually :-) Yeah, I am glad I was able to get up early to capture these cherry blossoms. It was really peaceful and nice. :-) Well, Tokyo is not exactly a picturesque environment but sometimes it is. :-) Good day!

Hi FashMagSlag,

Yeah, it is beautiful (kirei desu). hahaha. definitely better than Sakura KitKat for sure. :-) Thanks for stopping by and you have a good day!

Hi Hanuman,

Thanks very much! You have a good day!

Hi Vubog,

I hope those dind't make you cry because you got sentimental. They were good, right? You have a good day!

Hi Naomi,

Thanks very much! Oh, I am glad you found the photo marvelous. :-) Yup, it was quite amazing to go through under the trees like this one. It was fabulous. :-) You have a good day!

Hi Ian,

Actually, my favorite season is autumn so I find it more beautiful when it's autumn here in Tokyo. But this weekend was fantabulous, too. :-) I hope you were able to enjoy a lot of cherry blossoms here even though there were so many people out. :-) Good day!

Hi Cesar,

Thanks very much. They were indeedy beautiful for sure. But I was alone. :-( You have a great day!

Hi AJ,

Yup. One whole year. :-) Thank you very much for your compliment. I sometimes do requests but I sometimes don't. Unfortunately, I don't think I am going to upload a lot of photo of naked guys. But use your imagination! hehehe. You have a great day!

Hi Paul,

They are pretty, aren't they? Well, those drunk guys are not as attractive as you might imagine so it's better off without them in the photo. :-) Good day!

Still, my dream is to be in Japan for Cherry Blossom season.
Last night I found a new, cool, 24hr sushi place (Arang) here in NYC. I felt like Bill Murray in "Lost in Translation." I ate so much. It's my favorite new late nite eatery.
