Calculation

Hello from Portland, OR. I hope you are doing great. I had this fantabulous Hallibut at the restaurant but because of too much alcohol (7 martinis, 1 glass of Pinot Noir, 1 glass of Chardonnay, 2 Vodka water) last night, I have been having this horrible splitting headache.... I got extra strength Tylenol but how long do I have to wait until it kicks in? It doesn't seem to be working right now.... Except for that splitting headache part, I am doing great here in Portland, OR. While Gregg from Boston, MA didn't get to see the fantabulous side of Portland much (i am sorry, Gregg. I hope you will see that next time), I have been pretty happy here as people are very friendly and 0 percent sales tax. :-) The photo is one of the greatest president in the United States of America. When I had to pay 17 dollars for parking, I gave the attendant 22 dollars. (one 20 dollar bill and two ones. ) But she looked confused and gave me 2 dollars back. I wanted to get a 5 dollar bill so I told her to calculate with 22 dollars instead of 20 dollars. She didn't seem to get it until she punched the number. I am not saying anything but this happens to me a lot here in the States. When I buy something like 77 cents, I'd give $1.02 to get 25 cents for change. Is it weird I do this? hmmmm... Anyway, I am going to recover from this splitting headache and I will probably blog more tomorrow with photos. Thanks for stopping by and you have a fantabulous day! Don't drink too much!

Shigeki-chama, didn't you pack any amino acid gel with you? I think the next best thing you can do is drink lots and lots of water and get rehydrated.

I do the same thing you do, and yes, Americans seem to be bad at basic math. I sometimes get the same confused look from Japanese cashiers, but instead of questioning me, they punch in the amount of money I gave them and then figure out why.

$17 for parking??????? But I guess compared to Japan, it sounds like a bargain! Did you catch any of the baseball game yesterday? It was amazing. I wish I had been in San Diego to watch it live! Nihon BANZAI!!!!!!!!! BANZAI!!!!!!!!! BANZAI!!!!!!!!!

Hahahaha - at least I don't feel too bad about drinking! How about a drinking session at the Grand Hyatt eh?

Have fun in Portland. It's raining today in Tokyo! 2 more working days to the weekend...... :-)

I usually do the same with money too, especially if it involves getting rid of some of my coins but I sometimes get confused or "are you stupid?" looks back, especially from teenagers! lol! Hope your head feels better soon. GB

Wow Shigeki you are a pro. I'd be reeling (or under the table) after 7 martinis. Though martinis are a big deal lately here in DC (and I mean big as in huge, like 2-3 shots of alcohol in them). Hope you are much better by the time you read this. Hm, amino acids huh, wonder where I would get that in the states?

And as for your change thing, that it a little unusual, though I have done it and gotten confusion. I usually explain what I want when I hand them the money. No one can do math anymore here: cashiers have registers that figure it out, and we all have calculators of course. Sad, really.

TKevin

How do you drink that much alcohol, dude!

Paul

Still in America,,,wow.I'm just in another city now,but it made me exhausted..
Hope you enjoy your trip..safely*

Yes, it's a sad state of affairs in America, that most people can't do simple math in their heads!

I hope that you get over your headache soon, and continue to have a fantabulous time!!!

Having worked in retail with some obviously not-so-bright coworkers, I often do the math in advance for some of these poor retail clones who never really dreamed that simple addition and subtraction would be necessary in the real world. Want to see how many people can flunk a geography quiz? Ask them where West Virginia is....you'll probably get a response that indicates it's the western half of Virginia.

That is a lot of alcohol. I am afraid that if I had consumed that much I would have to be in a hospital for alcohol poisoning.

Enjoy the rest of your stay in Portland and Happy Shopping!

Nice list of drinks. Of course you like Oregon, you haven't experienced it sober yet :)

Few if any retail workers in North America (at least) can count back change if the cash register fails is telling them the amount of change owed. And even with the machine's assistance I notice that many clerks will, yes, give you an amount equal to what the machine says is owing, but will count out seven cents in pennies rather than a five-cent piece and two pennies. Sad.

Where are you headed next?

Hi GaijinGirl,

I did. I did pack my amino acid powder. :-) But I was too boozed to remember having it before going to sleep the other day. I went to bed earlier last night so I am all good. :-) But many convenient store guys in Japan are also like that, too. :-) You have a great day! (Japan rocks!)

Hi Ian,

Well, I don't drink that excessively (i may not be telling the truth but close enough. :-) but I had to.... Because of the date. Anyway. I am sorry it's raining there in Tokyo but you see Spring :-) It's still winter here. You have a great day!

Hi GayBoyDiary,

I know I don't want a lot of coins in my wallet as it gets heavy so I frequently do that thing. :-) hahaha. I am feeling prettier today. No headache. :-) Yay. Thanks for your thoughts. You have a great day!

Hi T Kevin,

Well, I don't drink that excessively and it rarely happens but because of the date I saw, nope. I had to drink lots. As for Amino Acids, you could get it at GNC (was that the name?) you know the suppliment store in the usual mall. I remember getting some when I lived in Seattle. :-) Amino Acid is great becuase it helps you burn more fat when you exercise. Have it 30 mins prior to your work out and you will notice the difference! You have a great day!

Hi Paul,

Well, I don't drink that much usually but I had to because of the horrible date. I had to get myself a lot drunk.... You have a great day!

Hi Leigh,

Yup. Still in America. It's a little longer than usual and I love it. :-) Which city are you in? Tokyo? You have a great day!

Hi Hanuman,

I guess I've seen the same thing when I was in the Netherlands. They don't seem to be able to do that, either. But it's okay. :-) As long as they don't give my money back for no reason. :-) Thanks for your thoughts. I am better now! Good day!

Hi Mr. Brian,

Thta's good that you do the math before :-) You know a friend of mine here in Portland is not really great at geography and I noticed that but seriously? West Virginia? wow, I'd be speechless. :-) You have a great day.

Hi Cesar,

I know it was a lot but I had to. I don't drink that much usually... but I had to.... to get over the bad date. You have a great day!

Hi Steven,

Oh yeah those were great drinks. I think I've had too many olives though. :-) I am sure it will be a disaster if the cash register fails. THey would have to have a backup calculator or something. It's sad but it's the truth. I just don't wanna carry around a lot of coins. You know. :-) I think this is the last destination for my trip. I need to relax. :-) Maybe, Seattle. But I am not sure yet. :-) You have a great day!

Shigeki- of course she didn't get it, she is from Portland Oregon ;-) I hope to get back there soon and actually see the city, but now I am off to New Orleans (or N'Oleans as they say in the south) -gregg

I'll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Hiya, I am really glad I've found this information. Nowadays bloggers publish just about gossips and net and this is really annoying. A good web site with exciting content, this is what I need. Thanks for keeping this website, I will be visiting it. Do you do newsletters? Cant find it.

Nice read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing some research on that. And he just bought me lunch as I found it for him smile Thus let me rephrase that: Thank you for lunch!

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass' favor.

I am so happy to read this. This is the type of manual that needs to be given and not the random misinformation that's at the other blogs. Appreciate your sharing this best doc.

I have been absent for some time, but now I remember why I used to love this website. Thanks , Iˇ¦ll try and check back more frequently. How frequently you update your site?

I was just searching for this information for a while. After six hours of continuous Googleing, at last I got it in your web site. I wonder what is the lack of Google strategy that don't rank this type of informative websites in top of the list. Usually the top sites are full of garbage.

I like what you guys are up also. Such intelligent work and reporting! Carry on the superb works guys Iˇ¦ve incorporated you guys to my blogroll. I think it'll improve the value of my web site :)
