The work life has gotten back as it was before I left for the vacation, but I still feel happy for no apparent reason. It must be the Spring
or the "friend" I had fun with last night. I guess I should have worked crazy like I used to; but, I went ahead and took an extended lunch break. I have no idea why but when I am here in this country, Japan, I tend to have as many Japanese meals as possible. I rarely eat something non-Japanese when I am here. Yet, I don't miss Japanese when I am abroad. FYI, I really like Vietnamese, American, Indian, Italian, Thai, etc... Today, I went to this revolving Sushi table place which is considered a low-end of Sushi restaurant. While a friend of mine who works in the same district had a few, I was very hungry and finished 6 plates. It cost me 1300Yen= U.S.$ 11.13 = 9.23 Euros. The sushi was alright. It was
eat-able. But nothing fancy. Anyway, Japanese meals vary from Tempura
to greasy Americanized Teriyaki crap to Sushi, I love everything about it. Why? I am Japanese after all. This could mean "Ethnocentrism" but I can't help it. However, I didn't eat Sushi without chopsticks as I didn't want my right hand fishy while I was told that the real Tokyoite (Edokko) eat Sushi without using them. Having Sushi with the right hand is very classic but I can't do that.... nope. My nails are too pretty to do that. Try to have a great lunch some time. Ta-ta-!
I love eating out in Japanese restaurants. I love sushi, tempura, those -don rice bowls like katsudon, and maki. When I eat Japanese, I don't use my fingers, but chopsticks, since I didn't know that you could actually do that. So that's the Tokyo-ite way of doing it, eh? Maybe I should just do that and astonish my friends when we eat again in a Japanese restaurant. Thanks for this knowledge!
On a side note, so you had a different kind of "raw dish" last night, eh? Hahaha! Keep grinning. :-)
Truth be told, if I never ate another dish of American food again, I would not miss it... nearly every foriegn dish we have assimilated has been slathered in disturbing amounts of grease and reduced to a "fast food" method of preparation.
Give me some good Japanese food anytime, I'll be a happy boy: Udon, Shioyaki, okonomiyaki, or tokoroten noodles (with either honey or soy/sesame seed mix)... any nice Japanese will do. :P
*sigh* i really love japanese food. and thankfully, there's a pretty good japanese restaurant in montréal. otherwise, i would have gone bonkers!
i've never been to those conveyor-belt sushi restaurants before. they don't have them here in toronto or in montréal. they look like fun!
I love Japanese food also but I haven't had it since I started my new job. At my old job we use to go have sushi at least once a week.
Elaborate more on your "friend". :)
You know, now that you've mentioned it, I specifically remember the sentence "Nihon-jin-wa te-de sushi-o tabemasu" in one of my textbooks. I'm not a big fan of eating fish, though, so I guess that's why this never registered in my head. Thanks for mentioning :)
Being Vegan, Sushi is not really my thing!
I'm glad that you experienced the "Rites of Spring"!!! ;)
I just love eating out Japanese. Um, not sure about my syntax there
Mmm, washoku! Kaiten sushi places are fun, but like you said, it's not because the sushi is good- it's the experience of it all. There are some places in NY where the sushi is just as good in Japan if not better, after all, certain fish that is popular in Japan comes from off Long Island, New York these days since you guys overfished your waters :P
I love most Japanese foods like tempura, good soba, and especially homestyle food. On the lower end of food, things that aren't pure Japanese food, but have become so, like mabo dofu, tonkatsu, etc are great too :) There is a kaiseki place run by Ito En tea company here that is quite good. Sometimes, I find that kaiseki food is too concerened with presentation that it doesn't actually taste that good, but the restaurant KAI makes it look good AND taste good while being authentic.
Usually when I cook at home, I mix things up and cook 'my own dishes', for example, a Chinese stir fry, something Japanese-esque, and rice and miso soup to go along with it. Or maybe another menu would be some sashimi from Sunrise Mart, rice, miso soup, kind of a neo Japanese dish like enoki fried in a little buter with ponzu or shoyu, and then something non Japanese to go along with it.
And amen on Indian food, as well as Vietnamese, Thai, and Malaysian. As I think you can see, I am passionate about food :-D Itadakimasu!!
Mmm. Sushi.
All food is good. Bring it on! Although I don't actually like sushi that much; I enjoy kaiten sushi for the experience more than the food usually. The food in Malaysia is particularly good Shigeki, if you ever get there you will get very fat I'm sure! I definitely put on weight when I went there last year. I think my favourite meal was an amazing beef rendang with rice cooked in bamboo from a road-side vendor, simple but SOOOO delicious. All the food was good there, and SO SO CHEAP! Food in England is good too, if you know the right places to go, but sadly it is often quite expensive :-(
I still think of that "How to Eat Sushi" mockumentary by the Ramens. Ma ma ma...o to to...ma ma ma...o to to... WA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
Here in Hamada we have an AWESOME kuru-kuru zushi place. It's busy all the time, and the prices are very reasonable. I think I've been ruined for conveyor belt sushi--I will always be comparing future experiences to Sushi Zou.
*sigh*
@ Fashmagslag: I like Sunrise Mart as wel, though they can be a bit pricey. I usually hit up Mitsuwa in NJ or one of the Daido stores (White Plains or Ft. Lee) for my Japanese food fix.
For one of the best sushi in Manhattan, I like Yuka. If I remember correctly, it is over on 2nd Ave and 80th. They used to have this really goofy (as in humourous) chef named Taku-chan there... he did an incredible "Lupin III" impersonation. They often have chuu-toro in stock, and once I had oo-toro... I about nearly "had a moment" when I ate it.
There is also a good kaiten zushi place over in the low 20s (I think it is on E. 25th and 2nd Ave.) called "EAST" I have been known to drop by.
Shigeki, I just noticed the part about your one night stand last night with your special friend, woo hoo!
seekeronos- I grew up iin Westchester and am familar with Daido in White Plains. Small, but it has everything for the Japanese pantry. Mitsuwa is AMAZING, but Sunrise Mart is easier for me since I work 10 minutes away from the one in the East Village. I like taking the elevator up to get to the store :)
I love japanese! Can I eat you Shigeki?
Lol I've havent had sex for more than a month and I'm begining to feel it... But I'll most probably settle for a nice sausage, or carrot, or diakon, or whatever... ;o)
Hi Mark,
I am glad to hear that. :-) Well, I don't think it's that common to use fingers when we eat sushi. We hardly see it though it's not strange to see people doing it, either. :-) Yup, I was told so but I am a real Tokyoite. But I don't do that. :-) Oh yeah, I had a great meal in addition to Sushi :-) You have a fantastic day!
Hi Seekeronos,
I think American food is great, too as long as I don't have to eat it every day. :-) But I cannot stand those canned red beets. those are very american, no? You like Tokoroten noodles? Wow, that's impressive considering not many non-Japanese have it for sure. A little advice. They usually use grated ginger. However, go with Wasabi. It's really refreshing. But I only have it in summer. :-) You have a great day!
Hi Raph,
Why sigh, sweetie? I am glad you have a great Japanese restaurant in Montreal. :-) It's nice to have it every once in a while, right? The revolving sushi place can be fun but it gets old pretty soon. And there are some "how long has this been here?" sushi going round. :-) I think it's good to go with the traditional style. You have a great day!
Hi Cesar,
That's great to hear. Some people don't really like Japanese food. I've seen them so that's nice to hear from you that you like it. :-) Sushi once a week? wow, that sounds a lot to me. :-) What a rich guy. Well, the friend I did stuff together last night was not a friend the night before. :-) And I don't think I will be his best friend anytime soon. :-) But it was all good. you have a great day!
Hi Logan,
Wow, that's impressive, Logan. Great memory as well. I didn't know they taught you something unuseful information like that. :-) It's not really convenient to remember it. :-) But it's good that you get to say that when you have to. :-) That's alright you are not a big fan of Sushi. me, either ever since I studied Microbiology. :-) You have a great day!
Hi Hanuman,
That's right. But you can eat non-fish sushi like "Kappa-maki" which is a cuecumber roll. Or "Natto maki" Which is a farmented soybean roll. :-) You can stil enjoy Sushi if you have to. :-) You have a great day!
Hi Steven,
Ever since you mentioned the previous comment, I cannot get that Canadian greeting idea out of my head. :-) I love eating out Japanese, too. But I haven't done that much when I lived in the United States. I should have. But for some reason, I was fine without Japanese. :) You have a great day!
Hi Fashmagslag,
Sorry that we fish a lot more than we need to. :-( But I guess we cannot live without fish. I always go for Sushi with "Kinkai mono" or "Kokusan" (domestic) when I eat Sushi so I believe I haven't had any from Long Island. :-) That's too bad you don't find Kaiseki sometimes not that good. You should try some in the prestigious Kaiseki place like "Kiccho" or "Nadaman". They are pretty good. :-) I love eating out like you do but then, I have to run extra miles when I eat more than I usually do. I am envious of your metabolism. :-) You have a great day!
Hi Mush,
Oh yeah!
Hi Tim,
Well, you don't think all food is good, do ya? They have to be dead, right. :-) That's okay that you don't like Sushi that much. I do not , either. :-) But I don't throw up when I have it. Microbiology class made me like it less. You know you talking about all the Malaysian food makes me very hungry especially at this hour. Damn. Surprisingly, London is very expensive when it comes to things in general. I, from the second priciest city of the world, find it very expensive. why? :-) You have a great day!
Hi GaijinGirl,
That was so fantastic, GaijinGirl. I really enjoyed it. I saved that file onto the ruined VAIO so I don't believe I have it anymore. It was the fantabulous thing. :-) I am sure the revolving Sushi Place over there is generally better than some here in Tokyo as fish is always fresh. :-) (well, we have Tsukiji Market but whatever...) By the way, what's up with Hongkonese who use a lot of Wasabi at Genki zushi? I can never do that... You have a good day!
Seekeronos, Fashmagslag,
Maybe, we should develop some map to pick good restaurants. :-) oh wait, citysearch.com does that. :)
Hi AJ,
That's good. I am Japanese. :-) I am very chewy. :-) Well, considering I hadn't had sex for more than 2 months recently, you can survive. It will make you crazy but you can survive. :-) You always have hands to play with, no? So thanks very much for sharing that you are a bottom. :-) But Carrort ? huh... :-) You have a good day!
My favourite is Marguro Donburi (not sure i spelt this correctly) and it only cost me JPY 500.
Next are the yakitori dishes! yummm.....
Since I have been here, I've eaten 90% Japanese food.....
Have a good day!
Carrot or Daikon? The daikons I've seen are scary big to eat in a single sitting. In previous times I'd offer hungry folks some sausage, but my "better half" would probably not like me to do that. :P
The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod's. It works well, but isn't as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that's not an issue, but if you're planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod's larger screen and better browser may be important.
Hiya, I'm really glad I have found this info. Today bloggers publish just about gossips and web and this is really frustrating. A good website with interesting content, this is what I need. Thanks for keeping this site, I will be visiting it. Do you do newsletters? Cant find it.
I'll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)
Hey, you used to write wonderful, but the last few posts have been kinda boringˇK I miss your tremendous writings. Past few posts are just a little bit out of track! come on!

I like what you guys are up too. Such intelligent work and reporting! Carry on the excellent works guys Iˇ¦ve incorporated you guys to my blogroll. I think it'll improve the value of my web site :)

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it'll do even better in those areas, but for now it's a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod's strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
Sorry for the huge review, but I'm really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it's the right choice for you.
Enjoyed every bit of your article post.Really looking forward to read more. Much obliged.
