I have been super busy lately... I missed another post yesterday.... damn. Anyway, when I was doing troubleshooting at work on behalf of a geek who is on vacation, I came up with this idea. Because I hate dealing with network stuff at work as it's not my job... I'd love to try this but I shouldn't.... It's been a while since I created a flash presenation last time. This is not a brilliant one but I hope you enjoy some computer "geekiness". Happy weekend! Don't work hard!09:26 PM E-learning, Flash, Geeky | Permalink | Comments (19) | (0)

You ARE truly evil!
But, that's just part of your charm!
Enjoy your weekend Sweetie!! :)

WAH HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!
Fortunately, I had a thermometer to back me up at school yesterday (38.0). I'm too much of a rule-follower to dare attempting something like your idea. My non-poker face would give me away in no time...

Devishly clever idea, Shigeki... :P

You are so sneaky, Shigeki. I actually have a key to the network closet here... but I don't think I'd dare try your little trick. Unfortunately once you are in this place, it's almost impossible to leave early unless you fall on the floor and have some sort of fit like you are having a stroke. And even then, they might tell you that you can't leave because your project is due at 5 pm.

I love it. The first thing I did after reading your post was look to see if I could do it....but I can't. I would probably get caught and be fired or something.
But it is truly Evil!

Had you written this earlier, I would suspect that some guy at the office building had read your blog and made some loopy wiring with our network hub. Server was down the whole day, no Internet, no email, and practically no work for me since I shot emails on various projects yesterday, which I intend to respond to/act and work on today. So, we did things that are the next best to leaving work - lunch from 11:30 to 2:00, shopped for 45 minutes after, went to a "meeting" at our company's store, and shopped some more until 7:00. Sweet.

Hard to believe that you're a nice guy! :-) Are you really? Hmmmm...Ah well at least you;re real!
Have fun at the weekend! I'm working....on Sat so that's so workaholic!

You crack me up. I love your little 'educational' presentations!
Posted by: Mush at February 18, 2006 01:30 AM
Wow! THAT is very, very funny. You've made my day! I'm going to share the idea with our IT guys and see if it'll work here :)

HAHAHAHA!! I'm a little afraid of you now (kidding) ;-)
Just read your last post- that snow was CRAZY. A little more than 2 feet of snow, and now, it's all melted less than a week later! If you do come to NY, promise me you'll email me first, ok?

I am wringing my hands with glee!

that is plain evil shigeki!! tho I'd have to say that the productivity in my workplace will skyrocket without the network! enjoy your weekend!

thank you for your good tips. I shall use it every now and then. ;) muahahaha

shigeki- old trick. the cisco hubs we use are too smart. when they detect the looped packets they turn off the offending port. Damn those techies are too clever. Hey, my blog friend Doris is visiting Tokyo and posting her experience. her blog is diary of a piss of asian woman".
Posted by: Gregg at February 18, 2006 12:27 PM
OMGoat! First the ketchup on the key board, then the soy sauce in the coffee, now looping the network cables??? You are truly an evil evil fabulous genious....
Posted by: Androjane at February 18, 2006 01:17 PM
Ha haaaa i hate to spoil your fun but the new cisco kit shuts down offending ports that are causing errors, so in your example, the port your hub's uplink port is connected to will get killed as soon as cisco kit detects a loop back.
next time try stopping the DNS services, then no-one will be able to get onto any webpages.....watch the fun as your helpdesk gets flooded with calls :o)

God, I could only wish that I had a computer at work. Then I could look at some porn!

Hi Hanuman,
well, I am not evil since I didn't really do it. :) I just thought of it logically without doing it for real. :) But I thought I'd share this with you guys. You enjoy your weekend, too!
Hi GaijinGirl,
hahaha. That's the part that makes you cute. I used to be a rule-follower but now I tend to be the guy who thinks "How can I get around the rule without breaking it?". It's not that I am a bad person. I hope not... You have a great weekend!
Hi Seekeronos,
Well, it's worth trying and pretend you didn't know that was a bad thing. :-) Some pointed out that Cisco switching hubs are capable of preventing that but I am pretty sure not all of swithing hubs are. :-) Have a great weekend!
Hi Kevin,
Well, the difference between going to the network closet and doing this is that whether you get canned or not. You can act innocent and tell them you didn't know it would do anything bad. :-) I am sorry that you cannot leave early... it sounds like it's about time to start looking for a new job with nice people?? You have a fantastic weekend!
Hi Cesar,
Oh yes, you can. :-) A lot of users seem to do this without knowing it so you can be one of them since you are not an IT guy. :-) But hide it very well. :-) You wouldn't get fired for that. You can just tell them you didn't know it would do that. :-) You have a pleasant weekend!
Hi Mark,
Too bad that your IT people couldn't resolve the problem immediately since it sounds very fatal.... wow, shopping around and a long extended lunch break... .I am so jealous. I want that. :-) I am glad you were able to do that and had fun. :-) You have a fabulous weekend!
Hi Ian,
Well, I am a nice guy to share this idea with you guys in an easy understanding way. :-) I am sorry that you had to work on saturday. You are truly workaholic. I had to work today, too but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. :-) Rest well and enjoy your weekend!
Hi Mush,
Thanks very much. I might do that every once in a while. :-) You have a great weekend. Stay warm!
Hi Steve,
Welcome to my site! Well, if the main switching hub in your office (which is a geeky huge equipment) doesn't recognize abnormal network signals, you could do it right away. :-) Ask them what kind of a switching hub they use. :-) You have a splendid weekend!
Hi Fashmagslag,
Hehehe. I can be nasty if somebody pisses me off. I have warned you now. :-) kidding. I heard it was really brutal. I am glad you survived though. :-)I hope I will go to NYC on vacation instead of mind numbing training .:-) But I will give you the heads-up if I do. :-) Have a wonderful ski weekend!
Hi Lynn,
Welcome to my site. I am glad I offered you something funny. :-) You have a fantabulous weekend!
Hi Tiptup,
I know but you can become innocently evil. Well, the down side of all is that productivity at your work decreases, you might get less incentive.... huh.. You have a fantabulous weekend!
Hi Ca va pas la tete,
You're very welcome. Well, you shouldn't use it often. Just one time when you run out of excuses to leave work early. :-) Good weekend!
Hi Gregg,
I know there are some smart switching hubs like that. Actually, we use one of those in Tokyo office but our remote sites don't. :-) I am gonna have to come up with something more brilliant then. The tricky part of all is that a person who did this should not be blamed if s/he didn't know how it affects the network. :-) Thanks for the link. I will check that out. You have a marvelous weekend!
Hi AJ,
Well, I did the first two things for real but I didn't do this one. :-) I just thought of it. :-) If I did it, I'd get canned so badly... I need incentive :-) You have a gorgeous weekend!
Hi James,
Yeah, some switching hubs detect that but I stated "If your network equipment is smarter, it may not happen at all" so I understand it may not work under some circumstances. But it's never bad to give it a shot, is it? :-) But then, I wouldn't do anything to cause the problem as I work in IT unfortunately. :-) You have a pleasant weekend!
Hi Paul,
You don't have a computer at work? I am so sorry to hear that. Well, I am sorry to tell you this but recently, there are many companies that installed "Web filtering" system and it doesn't let you access any "inappropriate pages". That sucks, right? One of the visitors to my blog cannot access my site because of that. My site is strangely categorized as a porn site. I wonder why... You have a fantastic weekend!

good one - I will have to remember that one!
also nice work with the flash animation!
