Non-Spirititual Place.

It's another clear windy chilly day. I am trying to grow my hair longer so it's hard to deal with a windy day. But thankfully, we don't get a lot of windy days like Kansas does :P While living in Kansas for two years, I gave up on the idea of styling my hair pretty because that's impossible as it's always a windy day there. I so do not miss there. Anyway, I went to Ebisu which is another hang out area in Tokyo. Ebisu is kinda...I don't know... not "Central Tokyo"... so I don't hang out here much. It's very interesting that this area is called "Ebisu" because Ebisu is one of 7 Lucky Gods. This God, Ebisu, is the god of Good Fortune. Ergo, this area should be very fortunate/lucky. By the by, my favorite beer, Sapporo, launched the factory way back in the 19th century here, and they made Tokyo original Beer and named it "Yebisu Beer". Ever since then, this area was officially called "Ebisu". The area named after the God. But it's not a spiritual magical place at all :) Now, compared with my favorite Sapporo Beer, Yebisu beer is very very thick and smooth and it's good to drink it in winter but I don't think i could enjoy it very much in summer as it's very rich. Anywho, Ebisu is somewhere I'd enjoy for dinner out. Now, I was supposed to meet a friend in front of this station but he said he would be late. My hair got all messed up with strong winds. So I decided to wait inside. I had no idea why but by the time my friend arrived, I finished three glasses of beer. I think I've been drinking too much beer lately. I should cut back... of course, I did drink another three or four glasses at dinner.... huh... I thought I wanted awesome abs instead of beer belly... But my 29-inch waist pants are not tight yet. :) Have a splendid weekend!

Hi Shigeki!
One day, I would like to try all the izakaya restaurants in Yebisu! I would also like to see the Tokyo Metropolitain Museum of Photography! ;-) Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

What a change in weather! It was superb yesterday and was planning to go for a run today but the wind got the better of me! So went back to the gym to concentrate on the abs instead :-) Was in Shibuya today and it was really windy...nice to be in the shops for once - warm and comfortable!

Beer is bad for the abs man! Stick to either red or white wine - or sake!

Thanks for the brief History of EBISU and how this is related to YEBISU. Since EBISU denotes wealth, I think I will pay EBISU a visit next weekend to soak in the atmosphere and hopefully some wealth as well! :-) Me - an EXPAT, yes but a low level expat.....so have to look after my spending :-)
Have a good weekend.....

Gasp! It takes forever for me to chug down a bottle of beer and here you are, chugging those glasses down like they were juice. :-) I'm not a fan of beer, I'd rather have some daiquiri or shaken blue margarita; I like to lick those salt on the glass rim. Anyway, segue-ing from Ian's post, I had the chance to taste sake the first time - served warm - in a Japanese restaurant in HK. Now that's one strong drink, well for me at least. I wonder if sake in Japan tastes better than this one. Have a great Sunday!

29 inch waist?

I so hate you right now........

:P

I love Ebisu- actually, that area of Western Tokyo (Nakameguro, Daikanyama, Ebisu) is really cool. Lots of great architecture, small little shops, and it's close to Shibuya and not so loud. If I lived in Tokyo, I would want to live around Aobadai (if I could afford it) ^_~

Oh yes, the izakayas around Ebisu are all good. I've also been to the photography musem; yield really depends on what exhibition they're having at that time. My favorite beer is by the way Asahi Super Dry, although Sapporo is fine as well. One beer I don't like too much is Kirin.

Somehow winds in Kansas always remind me of Dorothy and Toto :)

Paul

Hi Seishi,

Although Izakaya in Ebisu is alright, I love fancy sophisticated Izakaya in Marunouchi or Azabu. :) They are absolutely fantastique. :) Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photo is alright but I don't like the lighting there but architecture is very nice. I hope you had a great weekend!

Hi Ian,

Thank God, we are not in Kansas :) It's been a mild nice chilly day yesterday and today. Although the weather is not going to be really great later this week here in Tokyo unfortunately. Well, I always love beer. I can't give it up. So I run every morning. Ebisu is a great place. I used to work there and it was a great place though it's kinda far from my place. So I am happier now. :) Well, an expat is an expat. :) Good day!

Hi Mark,

Really? Well, beer is a substitute of water I think. :) I am a big fan of beer. But I don't like those warm beers you could get in Austria.... Beers have to be cold as always in my book. :) You know what's good about Sake? It makes your skin healthier. It's scientificially proved. :) Even though I didn't like Sake, I try to have it every day before I go to bed. Because of the skin tone improvement. :) You have a fantabulous day!

Hi Hanuman,

Oh yes, but I am not tall like Western People. I am only 5'8". So considering that, 29 inch waist isn't a big deal. I am not too skinny. :) But a waist is just a waist. There are so much more important thingies. Have a wonderful day.

HI Jon,

You do? It's kinda south if you ask me. But I used to work in Ebisu so I know many little fancy places. I admit I enjoyed lunch every time there. I miss fancy lunch.... But, Aobadai? really? Since I was raised in the middle of Tokyo and I still live in the middle of Tokyo, I think any suburb areas (Aobadai is actually in Yokohama) would scare me.... Brutal commuting, you know. :) You have a splendid day!

Hi Aro(アロ), Is that your name? or Did my blog decode your name wrong?

Welcome to my site! I see you are from Norway! Fun. From what you wrote, I assume you have lived in Tokyo for awhile? Asahi Super Dry is for grown-ups. :) I like drinking it every once in awhile in summer. Although Kirin is the number 1 beer company here in Japan, I totally agree. I am not a big fan of Kirin either. However!, there is a great cheapy "beer"-like product from them. It's nice, actually. :) You have a marvelous day!

Hi Paul,

Hahaha. you can never be straight, can you? hahaha. You know something really unbelievable? I have never seen the real "Oz"...... I know the story but I don't remember it... You have a good day!

Sometimes looking windswept can be very 'cinematic' and glamourous, but sometimes it just makes you look messy!! I always end up looking messy :-( Sapporo is my favourite Japanese beer I think, although I'd forgotten about Yebisu as I don't think it is very widely available here. You can buy Asahi in many places in the UK, Sapporo you can buy in most Asian supermarkets, but Yebisu I don't think I have seen. Maybe only once or twice. By the way, the Asahi that is widely available in Europe is brewed in Czechoslovakia!
