Boss: You told me you'd have to leave earlier at 4p.m. but can you stay longer?Me: No can do! It's the SPECIAL DAY. An One time thing of the year!
Boss: What is it important you have to leave??
Me: Beaujolais Nouveau!!!
My boss didn't even say a word but got surprised how stupid my saying was... I don't care. Yeah. It does sound insane for this wine but it's true. Today is the special day. Release day of Beaujolais Nouveau. Beaujolais Nouveau is the young made wine produced in the region of Beaujolais, France. To be honest, they started doing this because the wine made in that region wasn't that high quality. But it's now a great deal all over the world. Japan is always crazy about this wine every year. people who don't regularly drink wine go crazy about this, too. It's very popular here. Though I don't particularly like this wine because it's like drinking juice. Too light. Too fresh. But that's the reason why it has become so popular even for people who don't really like wine, I think. Because I have to go to work early, I decided to leave earlier even though the president wanted me for the briefing at 5p.m. It doesn't matter. I waited for this and got approval from my boss one month ago. (Speaking of the president, she was here in Japan yesterday....Lady, look at the paper. Not cameras!!!!) I left at 4p.m. Why? Well, I wanted to drink a lot! When I drink wine and feel alright, I go for 2 bottles. Because I couldn't stay up late tonight, I and several other friends decided to celebrate the release day of this wine from 5p.m. at my place. 6 different Beaujolais wine. 12 bottles. Even though I don't like the taste (God, I sound snobby...), it's the festival! I am pretty much boozed right now. I am heavily boozed... The wine is not expensive at all. So even if you don't like wine, may I suggest Beaujolais Nouveau for dinner? I bumped into something sharp when I was more drunk and my right shin's got a bump. It doesn't hurt right now. I think it will..... Anyway, happy drinking!!!
Yay for Beaujolais Nouveau! I agree: it's not very good wine, but the idea that all these people all around the world are drinking it at the same time is nice. I'll be picking up a bottle or two after work tonight!
*wine-drenched smooches*
Glad you had a fun Beaujolais Nouveau party!
LOL I can't imagine you telling your boss to "piss off, I'm having a wine tasting party!"
I'll certainly consider it the next time, but will it be normally served in restaurants/bars? From the way you describe it it's like not that strong or snobby enough.
I had a slightly similar scenario today at work - I told our boss why did she have to subject us to working on a photofinish project (told at 5:30 pm, needed by 1:00am). Her lack of planning does not constitute overtime work on my part. But unlike you, I still got to stay at the office and miss a mall performance of Constantine Maroulis, American Idol rocker-contestant, who is in town.
I wonder if this wine is available in our local stores. Our wine merchants carry a decent array of international wines so I might check them out over the weekend if they have this. 2 bottles, eh? I get tipsy on a glass-and-a-half of either red or white. Ulk!
of all the red wines that i've ever had, i think the pinot noir from the henry of pelham estates is the most amazing. it's a canadian wine (from near toronto, in fact). if you can get it, i suggest that you get their 2003 pinot noir. it's super amazing, with a nice smooth, creamy finish.
never had it tho it is big over here too. will pick one up for thanksgiving dinner!
Next special day will be "partie de sexe". I will like to see your boss reaction for this one.. lol.
Cheers.. and let get drunk..
Hi EnviroBoi,
YAY! I am glad you enjoyed it. It's not very good at all but it's amazing that we get to do this once a year! I think I had two bottles at least but thanks to amino acid! :-) You have a fantabulous weekend!
Hi Mush,
Yay, thank you. I am sure you will be enjoying your turkey day trip! Wait for it! Get well prepared. Pack everything you need! Have a fantabulous weekend!
Hi Will,
Well, when I say things like that, he goes "That's why I don't like people who are not so Japanese" but I don't give a damn about it as long as I can leave. :-) Yes, Beaujolais Nouveau is served at restaurants and bars as well. Because they are supposed to be very cheap, it's convenient. :-) You might find one in KL. :-) Try! Have a fantabulous weekend!
Hi Mark,
Oh.... poor Mark.... I am sorry that you couldn't leave and watch the hot performance.... I hope she willl get canned anytime soon. :-) I think Beaujolais Nouveau can be found at your local supermarket or do you guys have Isetan or Sogo in Manila?? You can find them there for sure. :-) It's good for who are not familiar with wine, too. :-) Try! have a fantabulous weekend!
Hi Raph,
Thanks for the introduction to the wine from "NEW WORLD". I went to wine classes earlier this year for this certification but, I didn't taste any wine from Canada except for some ice wine made in BC... It would be interesting to taste that. :-) Creamy finish with Pinot Noir?? that would be very unusual and interesting. :-) If I see it, I will ask for tasting. ;-) You have a fantabulous weekend!
Hi Tiptup,
I wonder if you'd eat Turkey over Thanksgiving but I think it'd go great with Turkey. :-) There are different brands for Beaujolais Nouveau. Beaujolais Nouveau Villages would be great but you can ask a store clerk for help if you don't know which. :)) Enjoy! Have a fantabulous weekend!
Hi Lifebook,
Well, I wouldn't say that at all for sure as I am not that close to my current director as he looks so rigid and conservative. :-) You have a fantabulous weekend!
