Summer is definitely on its way. It's already late June. The humidity seems to get higher gradually. mosquitoes are flying all over even though you don't see them... I am so sensitive about those little creatures and I try not to be bitten by them at all. That's because I had a bad experience. I had to fly to Bangkok one day. It was the first time for me to go to Thailand. It was absolutely exciting and I stayed there for two nights. I think I got bitten by a mosquito there and had a serious dengue fever a week after. Ever since then, I seriously hate them. It's not that there are mosquitoes with dengue fever virus here in Tokyo but still, it's better not to be bitten at all if you don't want any scar or spot on your skin. This is the photo of Mosquito pyrethrum coil. I picked up those on the way back from the gym to work last night. (I had no lunch break yesterday by the way.. 9 hour long call with the headquarters for troubleshooting...) These coils are essential in summer for me as I don't wear a PJ when I sleep in summer. Who would? I only wear undies in summer. Not the fancy ones. Just a regular pair. :-) It's the 21st century. There is a better innovated type with electric heat. No smoke at all. But I am an old fashioned type some times. I picked up the primitive type today and started using one of these tonight. They kinda smell good. Since I don't smoke, I miss the smell of smoke. This is good. Relaxing even. Oh yes. Nostalgia indeed. I wonder if these coils are Japanese thingy...

i don't know. we used to have them in the philippines. we called them 'katol'.
katori, maybe? Ka-Tori.. "Ka" means "Mosquitoes" in Japanese. "Tori" means "to capture". So it means "Capturing mosquitoes" It may be a Japanese thingy. I cannot really confirm that. But it's interesting to get to know that it's called something similar in the Philippines! Thanks for stopping by! Have a good afternoon!
you know, given that they are phonologically similar and that you can break the meaning down into component parts, it might just be possible that tagalog borrowed 'katol' from japanese. there was even a point in recent history when there was major contact between tagalogs and the japanese....
but, i wonder why we didn't just call it 'katori' or even 'katoli' to begin with. both forms would be possible in tagalog.
...sorry, it's the linguist in me..... :D
